I have my problems with this show that I've listed before - not great fight scenes, the Superdad thing, the twins, Smallville setting - but rewatching the first episode and seeing Superman stop that nuclear meltdown, gosh darn I love the rescue scenes on this show. Before this series if I wanted to watch a great modern scene of Superman just saving something, I'd have to pop in my disc of 2005's Superman Returns and watch that plane scene. If Snyder had just included one scene like that to contrast against all the city destruction porn I think think MoS would be somewhat less divisive.
-
MoS does have the scene where he saves everyone on the oil rig and saves the kids on the bus, both among the better scenes in the movie. Problem is, they get lost among all the other stuff.

Hopefully, SAL gets access to the real Superman rogues gallery like Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Zod/Faora, Doomsday, Mongul, Metallo, Bizarro, Lady Blaze, Maxima, Mxyzptlk, Parasite, etc.

I would presume that if they don't have it now, they will get it for season two, after the series finale of Supergirl.
It'll be interesting to see if they respect that continuity, which they are in theory a part of, in the face of what may at times be contrary winds in terms of what may be best for an individual story and actor availability or lack thereof. The other thing that might come up is that Supergirl actually adapted a lot of Superman comic stories to television that a Superman show would naturally, in a vacuum, want to use. So, whether to respect that those things happened, and happened to Supergirl instead of Superman, in their shared universe, or whether to re-tell them as happening to Superman in the present day of Superman and Lois and/or referenced as part of Superman's past instead of Supergirl's past, will be decisions that Superman and Lois' show runner and creative team may have to make.
Though they aren't part of the rogue's gallery, obviously, the potential lack of availability of the actors who played Jim Olson and Kat Grant on Smallville could lead to recasting and an altered backstory for them. Even though the setting and time period the series takes place in don't make them essential characters we would expect to regularly appear or have a strong explanation for the absence of, it'd be weird to have an entire series with Superman where Olson and Grant don't appear even once.
Have the powers that be given any indication on what their plan may be for stuff like that?

They haven’t mentioned any plans for Jimmy or Cat and I expect part of the reason why they had Lois & Clark leave the Daily Planet is they wanted to sidestep any of those issues. Given that the show seems to be planned to stay in Smallville for at least 3 seasons I doubt they’ll be focusing too much on traditional Metropolis elements.
Pity Supergirl didn’t use Death of Superman because I fear they’ll want to bring Doomsday in at some point since he’s still one of the “big” Superman Rogues left that hasn’t been used. Otherwise though, Supergirl’s usage of a lot of classic Superman stuff needn’t necessarily be a bad thing. It’s forcing the creators to start digging into areas that we don’t generally get to see, and I like that.

It seems that Luthor is the baddy for the last season on Supergirl so my guess is that the rest of the rogues get recast while just pretending the Crisis is the reason. As for Luthor himself, I assume Supergirl will kill him off at the end of the season taking him off the table for S&L. He may be mentioned going forward but I don't see him making an actual appearance. It honestly looks like they are trying to distance themselves from the rest of the Arrow-verse. Supergirl is still using the blue heat vision and just doing their own thing. The rest of the "universe" doesn't seem to be acknowledging each other. My guess is that S&L will turn the lights out on the Arrow-verse when they go and if they do make any more shows going forward, they will keep their distance from each other and not acknowledge each other. In other words, it won't be as united as it was before.

We're still getting that Diggle episode.
I think it remains to be seen how this show will function with the rest of the Arrowverse. It would feel kind of weird for this Superman to not deal with his actual Lex Luthor at some point, but then again it was weird enough how even when they had Hoechlin around Lex still somehow focused more on Supergirl.
-
Much as I do want to see Cryer and Hoechlin go at it, I also desperately want the next season to not revolve around (a) Lex again, so I’d rather they bring Cryer back for S3 if at all. If they use Brainiac for S2 though I could definitely get behind Clark & Lex having to clench their teeth and work together to stop him.
-
The Diggle episode will be interesting to see how they weave the Arrowverse of all this into Superman & Lois.
Does anyone know when that episode is supposed to be aired? This was all pre-Covid plans, correct? Could that have nixed this plan?

Yeah, Cryer's certainly dying or being taken off the chessboard for awhile after Supergirl wraps up. It might be interesting to see Captain Luthor and Cryer's Luthor insect, but I'm not sure if they want to do that...yet.

That episode is still in play. David Ramsay who plays Diggle will still be directing an episode this season, as he is for every episode of a show Diggle is appearing in. That episode might be 8 or 7 if I remember what I read correctly. Either way, I still see the show as being based in the Arrowverse, maybe not as reference oriented, but still there. They were going to do that Batwoman crossover until Covid got in the way, unless the ones in charge had a change of heart in connecting it to the universe, which I don't think they have, that view shouldnt have changed especially with the Diggle thing happening

I don't see their version of the JL ever making an appearance again. Supergirl's done. Black Lightning's done. Kate isn't Batwoman anymore. I suppose Flash or the Legends could show up but the tone just doesn't feel right for this show.

If the “JL” ever shows up again I think they’d probably just use Batman & WW alongside Hoechlin Superman.

Besides crossovers, the shared universe aspect of these shows get less emphasis the bigger and older the arrowverse got. And really it was only ever big between Arrow, Flash and early Legends. Back then you'd have characters regularly bouncing between the 3 shows, plot points paying off and set up on each others shows not just references. Now Arrow is over and latter seasons of Legends became more and more their own thing, even making fun of not wanting to get ropped into more crossovers. And I think thats how it will be going forward even if they are all now on the same earth/timeline. So yeah this show is probably canon but like everyone else they're in their own bubble. And to be fair isn't that kinda the nature of dc anyway? VS the more interconnected Marvel?

Sucks that we have to wait so long, but I’m eager for the next episode.
