Here are good choises:
- Daredevil by Frank Miller <- probably the best super-hero run ever on any super-hero
- Sin City by Frank Miller
- 100 Bullets by Brian Azzarello <- the serie I read the fastest, it's so good
- Hellblazer <- read in order
- Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis
- The Incal by Moebius <- you can't find any better scyfy
- DC: New Frontier
- Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck: The Don Rosa Library by Don Rosa <- It's Scrooge but it's excellent
- Green Lantern / Green Arrow by Dennis O'Neil <- very very fun to read
- Wolverin: Old Man Logan by Mark Millar (only the story by Mark Millar)
Have fun with all that to begin with.

Daredevil by Frank Miller and Captain America by Ed Brubaker are two of the best superhero comics runs.

Watchmen (goes without saying)
