Bobby Unser, a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and part of the only pair of brothers to win "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," has died. He was 87.
He died Sunday at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, of natural causes, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway said Monday. Unser won the Indy 500 in 1968, 1975 and 1981.
"He is part of the Mount Rushmore of Indy," said Dario Franchitti, another three-time Indy 500 winner.
Younger brother Al Unser is one of only three drivers to win the Indy 500 four times -- 1970, 1971, 1978 and 1987. The Unser family tradition stretched to Al Unser's son, Al Unser Jr., who won the Indy 500 in 1992 and 1994.
You can read the rest of the article here:
https://www.espn.com/racing/indycar/story/_/id/31383651/bobby-unser-three-indianapolis-500-winner-dies-age-87
What I know about auto racing wouldn't fill a thimble, but even I'm familiar with the accomplishments of the Unser family. RIP to Bobby.
What I know about auto racing wouldn't fill a thimble, but even I'm familiar with the accomplishments of the Unser family. RIP to Bobby.
Back in the late 1960s into the 1980s I use to watch the Indianapolis 500 every year, so names like the Unsers were very familiar to me.
I haven't followed the Indy 500 for a while now. All the changes they made seemed to water-down my interest in it, even though quite a few of the changes were done in the name of safety. But when all the cars are essentially the same car, it loses some of spark it use to have for me.

Be glad you don't follow Formula One. I'm fine with safety changes; no one wants to see the drivers get hurt, but some of the others changes....
But to Unser, never saw him race, but I've certainly heard of him. RIP to a racing great.

Only 49 years old, and a 14 year battle with cancer. And by all accounts, he was not just a great artist but also a wonderful human being.
Not fair.
Having seen it in a couple of places now, it looks like Jim Steinman passed.
Having seen it in a couple of places now, it looks like Jim Steinman passed.
Looks like that happened back on Monday, April 19th.

Yep. Just another one that I had hoped could be some sort of a misunderstanding or a mistake.
Just heard about this:

She must have been very young in the 80's to have been in rock videos and only be 59 now. Too young to die.

I thought he died already.
