I wonder just what Farouk's actual game is. At different points in his shpiel he seems to be saying different things. There's one point where he seems to imply that he wants Rahne's help specifically because she's a mother who can be a parent to the kids. But elsewhere he seems to imply that it's her 'damage' that makes her the best choice to help them. If it's the latter then the better choice would be the person who was even more damaged but has succeeded in moving past that, not the person who just suffered a huge trauma an hour ago. I feel like Farouk is gathering pets.

Farouk is a chaos entity who has only ever wanted to spread as much destruction and hate across the world as he can. Look back at the Muir Island Saga, he was using Polaris (with her Zaladane powers) as a means to spread hate across the entire globe. Hell, Claremont intended for Farouk to be responsible for everything in the X-Men (an author of all your pain type deal) to try and bring about a chaotic Days of Future Past type future. Assuming Vita is following that, well I would assume Farouk is stirring **** and seeing where it takes him.

After the sh!t he pulled with karma why would Rahne even listen to that mess?

I think the idea here is that the Shadow King was riding Farouk? Like he did with Karma? So maybe they do not know the Shadow King itself is back.

The thing is, we still do not have confirmation that the Shadow King is indeed involved or that this is just Farouk. When I read all previous issues, it does not make clear if Farouk is doing bad stuff, or just following what he thinks is good. It seems he believes he is making the kids stronger and no alternative motives have been shown yet.
Farouk has always been connected to Shadow King, but I think this might just be the guy himself.

Yeah I'd rather it just be confirmed Farouk is the Shadow King is Farouk.
Take some damn agency!
But if it is a separate entity where was Farouk when Karma was possessed? When Xavier reduced him to an incorporeal being I guess their psyche's or whatever got merged?
-
Farouk should get killed, and resurrected as a younger person and love interest for Malice.
-
I don't think Xavier has a back up of young Farouk.
-
Farouk's recent appearances all suggest he's up to no good.
I understand the emotional pain she's feeling might be overwhelming but...Rahne really should know better. At least not be so trusting. I would have thought her wolfen senses would pick up something is not quite right with Farouk.
-
Rhane had to be in a team with her son's murderer and now she lives in an island where her mom's murderer is part of the High Council.
I guess she just doesn't care anymore.

The previous issues implied that Farouk and the Shadow King were separate beings that had merged due to spending so much time bonded, which was the prevailing theory prior to this.

Did anyone ever imagine that in 2021 , both of them would actually become regular cast members of the XBooks and NOT be “villains”? LOL

Are they regulars tho?

I'm not excited for this issue.
Ayatal's New Mutants is just a little bit but not much better than Brisson's New Mutants which was extremely boring.
Give us a better writer please. I heard there's a new artist coming along by name of Alex Lins. Anybody has his arts?

you're sitting alone on that island, ericng

No, I'm not. Show me the sales figure for the recent New Mutant issues if you don't believe.
It's definitely better than Brisson's awful run but not enough to generate a lot of interest.
Someone like Zeb Wells would be much better.

Last official numbers we got had it sitting with Marauders right by X-force. Which is the best of the era besides the actual X-title and Wolverine. Zeb Wells was never going to cause the numbers to rise higher. He's no where near prolific enough.

How many issues have been published so far?
New Mutants #14 (Dec 16, 20)
New Mutants #15 (Jan 27, 21)
New Mutants #16 (Feb 24, 21)
New Mutants #17 (Apr 28, 21)
With 3 issues published so far, it is pathetically slow and too early to tell whether it can make it.
Usually, the first 2 or 3 issues sell moderately well due to the novelty of a new writer/artist but then it dies off quickly if the writer is mediocre.
Marauders aren't really selling well by the way. The X-Men and X-Force have much better figures.
I will wait until it has reached at least 10 issues before seeing the sales figures.
-
Comichron hasn't put out any numbers in a while where are people pulling their guesstimates from now? It was silly then to talk about numbers and how a book was doing then with that resource there but it is even worse now.
If you are saying a book isn't selling well based on what? What are the numbers?

The low number of response to this preview thread show that people aren't really interested in Ayatal's writing.

You say this whenever a New Mutants preview drops, but where’s that energy when the actual issue drops?

Such a false equivalency. Have you noticed that SWORD and Hellions often have the lowest responses when an issue drops because people only have positive things to say or nothing to complain about. Also these forum’s are simply not representative of how successful a book is. Get a bigger sample size and come with some actual data before you claim that a writer needs to be fired because everyone has apparently lost interest.
-
Don't believe they still don't make comics to cater to the tastes of individual fans. Do Marvel editorial have any clue what they're doing at all when it comes to selling exactly one copy of each book?
-
There's really not much to talk about here. 2 pages of Farouk talking to Rahne. We've already gone over 'Farouk is obviously up to something' and 'X character should know better' and there's nothing to add from this. When the issue comes out and we get to see the plotlines actually moving forward, with the group in Otherworld, the kids, the training, Gabby's story, pretty much anything Magik does, then there will be something to talk about.
I was hoping the Farouk plotline would be wrapped before the Hellfire Gala and that's why the series skipped last month, but from the July solicits we know that isn't the case. At least the kid lost in Otherworld plot will be resolved by then since Dani and Xian are attending and not still in Otherworld.

Who is this Ayatal person?
Anyways, Vita Ayala is doing a tremendous job.

Exactatiously.
Go through the Jean thread or the Excalibur/Rogue/Betsy threads...80% of the 100-plus pages are filled with discontent and hate for one thing or another. They're not very enjoyable threads to read through, at all, especially around the time a new issue is previewd and drops.
Personally, I much rather have these few pages of quiet enjoyment and hopeful appreciation. We don't need that amount of negativity ruining the ambience.

Lol who cares about people. People are buying X-Force instead of SWORD just because they recognize the title. Vita is one of the best writers in the line right now, along with Wells, Spurrier and Ewing. Children of the Atom is way better than it has any right to be, and Prisoner X was one of the few legible titles in that Age of X-Man abomination.

Yeah, maybe I'm wrong. Let's see the sales figures for New Mutants a few months down the road.

Yeah...Farouk...that'll end well...
