There were a few attempts to fix the Marvel thing, basically that the Fett mentioned in Marvel was in fact a clone that wound up with Jango's memories and wore similar armor to Boba or something like that.... (and that it was Padme, not Leia who was to be captured)

1982 "Mandalor" and "Mandalorian" first mentioned.
Could be. A lot of Legends stuff does get grandfathered in.
Is it just me, or has a lot more old EU material become proper movie canon under Disney than it ever did under Lucas?

Yeah, I remember that pretzel. Frankly, I think that they should've just ignored the whole thing as "early installment weirdness" and moved on. Besides, the solution creates more problems then it solves.

Somewhat, I think. On one hand, movies like Solo make deep cuts into the tie-ins (and Legends, for that matter). However, the majority of grandfathering has been in the tie-in and that's been business as usual under Lucas, as the whole Boba Fett/Spar situation showed.

There are certainly some things that seem a bit more uniquely Disney. The Kyber crystals for one-while crystals were sort of there in the old EU (Especially Splinter of the Mind's eye) they weren't as big a deal, and there wasn't really any connection between the lightsaber's technology and the Death Star (There was the "Darksaber" from the novel of the same name but I think it was only called that was because it cosmetically resembled the saber), nor was there any sort of life-force or something approached to it (It seems the backlash to lightsabers being somewhat living beings has been far more muted than the midichlorians).
Also female Imperial/female officers and Stormtroopers. While there were some in the EU before (Ysanne Isard, Daala etc.) their seem to be a wider variety now. Rae Sloane in particular is a prominent one in a few of the novels, and the lead character of Battlefront II is a woman Imperial turned Rebel. (Also, a lot of the Disney canon seems to feature a lot of defecting Imperials/First Order guys....heck, we can even count Han in a way)
Another main difference is that there also seem to be more force-related religions as well apart from Jedi vs. Sith, . While this was touched on a few times in the previous EU of course, it seems to have shown up far more in the films/toons/novels than before, even with characters who are not necessarily connected to the force. Lor Son Tekka, Jyn's mom, Maz, and the nuns on Luke's planet etc...and of course the Guardians in Rogue One.

Regarding Solo, yeah, the film's pretty much as EUish as it can get. While of course not really an adaptation of the old Han novels, it does feature Han's Imperial backstory (although I'm pretty sure this is something Lucas always intended for the character to have), a sort of lost love (even with a similar name!) and even some ties with the early Rebellion; Lando travelling with a droid co-pilot is also something from his novels, and the film references two of those adventures, although with L3 in place of Vuffi Raa.
The cloud Riders are also loosely based on an old Marvel concept. Dryden Vos has the same last name as of course Quinlan Vos, although that seems to be the only major connection there.
I don't quite remember Correlia being as Imperial in the older EU though. While it certainly fit with Han's dialogue in ANH, the old EU always seemed to have Corellia be largely independent from the Empire-whereas the Corellia seen in Solo seems to be partially made of Star Destroyers, there's so much building going on there in the first few scenes of the movie.

All that began with the Clone Wars show under Lucas.

Well, it's a better reflection of world we live in.

The tie-in materials take it to a whole new level, too.

Either the novels were used as a springboard, or both AC Crispin and the movie makers were given the same notes, so to speak?

Thought the latter was concidental. On the other hand, they seem to be suggesting Vos is the same species as the Sith chick in the Freemaker Adventures Lego show.

Out of work and on the run ex-regime personnel?
Or are we maybe starting at the end of the OT and then moving on?

Maybe flashbacks?

Yeah according to Favreau it takes place just a few years after Return of the Jedi.
So remnants of the Empire, could still be struggling to surrvie.
