Speaking of bands and their critical standing though, I will say that I consider The Clash to be extremely OVER rated.
I'm sure that's somewhat controversial in certain circles. I just don't get what the hoopla is surrounding the group though.
Highly controversial. The Clash are considered one of the greats!
Musically, they were very influential in broadening the scope of what "punk" entailed. One of, if not the first to bring in the reggae and dub influence to punk. They were, with the exception of Simonon (who did work hard to improve), actually talented musicians, which was almost against the early punk ideals.
They were a highly influential band. They won't be for everyone, but what music is?
What does "centre" mean though? The democrats are probably right of what would be considered "centre" here in the UK.
Ah, but what the center outside of the US is meaningless for us (and visa versa - it works the other way for your country and elsewhere, too :)).
Then how is there more than one definition?
I don't think there really is.

American politics is a quagmire seperate from European politics
-
Really? I would agree with you on Death there but Megadeth have always been a highly rated Metal band
But, as you correctly point out, this is specifically among Metal circles, and not the populace as a whole.
American politics is a quagmire seperate from European politics
Well, we of course have some crazies over here in Europe too but i'm just amazed at the farce politics is in America.
Which is pretty frightening when you come to think that so far America remains the most influential nation out-there.

Christmas makes me feel miserable and I absolutely hate everything about it. Yes, even cookies. No, not a Seuss character typing theese words.

I find hatred of cookies a bit extreme. But I shall respect both your feelings and your opinion.

Hatred of cookies is highly controversial. Christmas not so much.

Cats movie is brilliant!

How is it that beards have become so popular--and not just your small beards that were popular in the '90s, or the stubble that's been popular for most of this century, but big thick monster beards? I've grown beards many times--in the winter or when I'm travelling--but I've never kept them for more than a week--because they are uncomfortable, scratchy, bothersome. If this is a fashion statement, I don't see how so many men put up with them for so long. And frankly, I find them off-putting and sketchy--what are they trying to hide behind that thick face-fur?

Personally, I hate shaving.
I don't think there really is.
Then how can it depend on what your definition is?
-
Personally, I hate shaving.
Does anybody like shaving? Now that would be a controversial opinion! :)
Like Jim, I shave because I don't like the way a growing beard feels. Having said that, I have no problem with others having one. I used to have a mustache for years and sport sideburns presently, FWIW.

Finally, somebody talkin' sense.
Well, except for that part in blue.
I start getting antsy if things even make it that far.
