I'm starting The Vampire Chronicles IV: The Tale of the Body Thief. I was never a big vampire fan, but these books have been really sucking me in. If anyone out there is a real vampire, please reply with deets about how to join a creepy vampire coven.
Also finished The Wheel Of Time #3: The Dragon Reborn. As someone who doesn't like Rand much, I liked that he was barely featured in this, and it was mainly the Adventures if Nynaeve, Egwayne, Matt, and Perrin. My favorite part had to be when Matt beat up Galan or whoever the good looking dude is that all the Aes Sedai swoon over. Nyneave is still the best character, taking crap from nobody My one complaint is
[spoil]It seemed like a cop-out for them to be all "Rand killed the Dark One" only to then go "Baalzamon isn't even the Dark One". Well, I guess you need plot twists like that to milk 9 more sequels out of it. [/spoil]

I made the mistake of starting to read, then skipping around in Will Shetterly's How to Make a Social Justice Warrior, covering anecdotes over the course of ten years of online sf and comics fandom interactions and his theories on how the internet age has changed things. The occasional funny or insightful moment is really dampened by rampant ego and desperation prove he's more aware and compassionate and right than anyone else on the planet. Reaches the its height of reason when tackling a "controversy" I'd never heard of, over Green Lantern Killawog's name, and its apex of awkward desperation when questioning how racism can still be a big deal if a black woman went to an expensive college (and seeming conviction that he proved his point, because she wouldn't say to him, how she paid for that college).
A shame, because I have very fond memories of his novel, Cats Have No Lord.

Does anyone have any upcoming books marked on their calendars?
Things I'm hyped for:
Joe Hill - The Fireman 5/17
Stephen King - End Of Watch (Bill Hodges #3) 6/7
Harry Potter #8 - 7/31
The Expanse #6 in June.
Disappearance At Devil's Rock by Paul Tremblay in July
Anyways, I've been reading two Clive Barker books.
By myself, I'm reading Everville, the sequel to The Great and Secret Show. It's decent so far, but feels like Barker is trying to copy Stephen King's style here. I've been reding Barker chronologically and his stuff is feeling stale and repetitive.
Secondly, I am reading his book for kids, The Thief Of Always, with my daughter. The book is a lot like Coraline in nature, and it is fun exposing my child to someone as insane as Clive Barker. I am pretty sure this is Barker's only kids book, so she's going to need to grow another 10 years before I feel comfortable giving her another of his books, especially with all the weird sex stuff he usually sneaks in.
Another book I finished was the Vampire Chronicles #5: The Devil Memnoch. It was cool getting this worlds God/Satan origins story, it fit in snuggly with all the wild mythology that Queen Of The Damned had previously established and was one of the best books in this franchise.

I'm waiting to see how you respond to the second set of books, if you keep going, and particular the two most recent.
I thought Blood Canticle was hilarious and a great capper (though I'm happy that she's started going with them again), but people seriously flipped out over it (and then she responded in anger, too, and... yeah).
I'm two-thirds of the way through a reread of Merrick, myself, just now. I wish it was more her book, but enjoying it, nonetheless. Who doesn't love Louis and his little vampire myopia?

He's got a few other kids books. His Abarat series, I think there are 3-4 books, are for kids / young adults.

Gave up on listening to Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings about halfway through. It was so boring and nothing was happening.
Started listening to A Drink Before War by Dennis Lehane. I've seen some movies based off his books but have never read / listened to anything by him before.

05. JUNE 14TH - AIR TIME BY HANK PHILLIPPI RYAN (PB)
06. JUNE 28TH - SARA PARETSKY - BRUSH BACK (PB)
07. JULY 12TH - DANIEL SILVA - THE BLACK WIDOW (HC)

I'll listen to anything by Joe Hill or Stephen King once it becomes available on audiobook at the library.
I'll be reading the next Expanse book when it comes out. Its very weird that the two authors of it being disciples of George RR Martin are able to actually put out books in the series like clockwork. Obviously it helps that there are two of them writing it but they are still very fast relative to their mentor. As to the series, after the events of the last book, which I'd wrongly expected to be a throwaway book in the series, I'm very anxious to see where its going now.

Merrick is one of the next books I would need to read, but I see it is a crossover with Anne Rice's other series, the Mayfair Witches, so I'm going to read those before proceeding with the Vampire Chronicles now that I see the universes are shared. I'll be starting book 1 of that series, The Witching Hour, once I finish this post. I heard that the next bunch of Vampire Chronicles are biographies and period pieces about various side characters and their life stories, which I'll probably get bored of, but will deal with if the newer books are back to having modern plots.

Yeah, I thought the last book would be boring when I started it, just filler about everyone on vacation. Boy, those guys can;t go anywhere without universe-shaking events happening around them, not even vacation. My one complaint is that no major characters get killed since book 1, it's time to kill one of our beloved crew mates like Naomi, Amos, or Bobbi, someone whose death would carry major weight.

That's good to know, I'll probably get those down the line.

Yep. Same thoughts. The fourth book kind of bored me and I assumed this 5th book was basically going to tell the origins of the main cast and be so involved in that there would be little progress on the main plot. So I actually didn't get around to reading the book until a few months after it got released. Now I'll be buying and starting the next book on release day because of how pumped I am to see what happens next.

I'm on the 2nd book of the Darth Bane Trilogy

Titan Shattered.
It's a book written about how 1996 in the World Wrestling Federation was and all the decisions, for better or worse, that ultimately resulted in the pro wrestling company to shed its failed "New Generation" focus and go into the Attitude Era. Not as good as Titan Sinking, which is about the worst year in WWE history (1995), but it's a nice read.

Anne Rice's The Witching Hour (The Mayfair Witches #1)
How has Anne Rice not been picketed by religious groups, or panned by child molestation survivors groups? Like, all her books have people banging kids. At lest in the Vampire Chronicles, all the sex between vampires is implied and happens between scenes so you don;t need to deal with the awkward thought of Lestat/Louis/Claudia orgies. But in this book, there were multiple scenes of kiddie porn and rape. It makes me miss the Vampire Chronicles world, where everything is implied.
I googled "Anne Rice controversy" assuming I would find links to people losing their minds about all her pedophile stuff she writes, but apparently nobody is bothered. The only books I've come across before with creepy kiddie porn was Stephen King's IT, but he clearly got the memo that it made him look like an IRL creep and never did it again. Where as Anne Rice seems to be trying to constantly top herself in terms of being a massive deviant sex offender.
Like, I really enjoy the books, but Anne Rice is a massive creeper. I would never let her babysit my child LOL.

Notice the movie of Interview recast a character as a middle-aged man more than likely just for that reason.
But, then, Stephen King's It has the child group sex taken out of its adaptation, too.
And, most of those who supposedly read the books never talk about those parts. So, either a lot of people bought them and didn't finish, bought them and didn't notice, or we're all so scarred we just don't talk about it.
I don't see, however, the Claudia situation as even implicitly sexual. Louis and Lestat both have a very hard time reconciling her appearance with her eventual age and maturity. She, eventually, may see things more sexually, but I don't think there's any actual pedophilia involved there. Armand, on the other hand...
