No love for Ross Andru's Spider Man?
And I second George Perez's Avengers
I love Andru with Spider-Man and Superman, it's just that I never think of him before others.
Only because it was silver age, but honestly, to me, it will ALWAYS be Everett's Namor. Always. He's perfect.
Probably the toughest character. Colan, Buscema, and Everett were all so great. Unlike some other creators, Everett doesn't just get a notch because he did it first, it's also difficult to say he wasn't best, especially given how far ahead of his time he was.
I also love Andru's Spider-Man, but like Kuwagaton his version is not the first that sprigs to my mind.
I am curious about how other people see a few other characters:
Iron Fist - I put Kerry Gammill for my choice of iconic Power Man and Iron Fist artist, because he really made their friendship come alive. However, when it comes to Iron Fist alone, I think Byrne really perfected the original Iron Fist costume, particularly making the eyes not just Spider-Man transplants, and making the deep-shadowed green parts of the costume contrast with the virtually detail-free yellow areas; however, I know for many Aja is the IF artist, while some have really taken to Kaare Andrews' recent version. Would anyone like to say which version is THE version for them?
Also, Black Panther: I found his look kind of boring until I saw Kirby's rendition, which remains how I think of the character, but has Kirby been supplanted by later artists for others?
Fantastic Four-Jack Kirby
Captain America-Jack Kirby
Ant-Man- Jack Kirby
Spider-Man-John Romita Sr.
Doctor Strange- Steve Ditko
Daredevil- Frank Miller
X-Men- Dave Cockrum/ John Byrne
Alex Ross' Doctor Strange, if only for how he visually portrays Strange's magic.

Bill Sienkiewicz I feel had a big part in why Moon Knight and New Mutants stood out, thanks to his visually striking abstract art that you rarely see in comics. I mean, just LOOK at it:

Epting - Captain America
McNiven - Wolverine
ron lim - silver surfer
and I could never get enough of Marc Silvestri's X-Men
Kirby's Captain America
Kirby's Fantastic Four
John Byrne's Wolverine
Gil Kane and John Romita's Spider-Man
Gil Kane's Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell)
Jim Starlin's Adam Warlock
Jim Starlin's Thanos
Alan Davis' Captain Britain
Alan Davis' Meggan
Dave Cockrum's Nightcrawler
Simonson's Thor
Simonson's Beta Ray Bill
Bob Layton's Iron Man
Bob Layton's Hercules
John Buscema's Hank Pym/Goliath/Yellowjacket
Kerry Gammil's Power Man and Iron Fist
Gene Colan's Dracula
Ditko's Doctor Strange
Bill Sienkiewicz' Moon Knight
Bill Sienkiewicz' Elektra
Bill Sienkiewicz' New Mutants
Art Adams' Longshot
Jim Lee's Psylocke
Jim Lee's Gambit
Paul Gulacy's Shang Chi
Sal Buscema's Hulk
Chris Bachalo's Generation X
Byrne's Alpha Flight
I'm really torn between whether I think of Jack Kirby's or John Buscema's version when I think of the Silver Surfer.
Pretty much this, although we differ with respect to Elektra (Frank Miller). As for Silver Surfer, for me it's John Buscema over Kirby. I know many choose Ron Lim here, but I never really took to Ron's version of SS or Nova (Frankie Raye).
Lastly, add Ernie Chan for Conan.

Yes, the most iconic for me is Mark Texeira during Priest era

Though as late of wish the MU would adopt the MCU look because lately artists have gotten lazy with drawing to T'Challa and Making him look essentially like a Shadow with eyeballs. So in recent times my favorites have been
Kenneth Rocafort:

And Daniel Acuna:

Texeira for laying the ground work for BPs new look, Rocaforts for the detail to his face and habit, and Acuna for incorporating the MCU look which is suoer badass
Which Artist's version of a character is the most iconic? It could be because he/she drew the character for so long, or because its simply the most recognizable version. Or maybe its the version you grew up on.
If you have to pick one, who is it?
My pick would be this rendition of Iron Man from JRJR/Layton:
It's a character with four different pretty equally iconic artist renderings, those being Kirby, Buscema, Lim, and Moebius. Can't go wrong with any of them.
Totally agree. But just for the sake of argument, I'll just go ahead and choose Lim (who draws both Silver Surfer & Thanos greatly, IMHO):
Jack Kirby

Definitely agree. I really like his work from when he returned to Marvel during the 1970's:
Moon Knight - Bill Sienkiewicz (you know I think so 'cuz why would i have gone to the trouble of spelling Sienkiewicz)

LOL! Totally agree, CaptCleghorn. However, I've recently become a fan of Declan Shalvey's Mr. Knight:
Dr. Strange - Frank Brunner
http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/doctor-strange/1-20.jpg
Brunner is definitely a legend. But my favorite will always be Gene Colan's Dr. Strange:
The O5 - Neil Adams
http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/uncanny-x-men/58-1.jpg
Really like Neal Adams' work for Marvel, especially his rendition of the inner workings of the Vision from Avengers: The Kree/Skrull War
My all time favorite, George Perez's Avengers.
Agreed. He's great when drawing Marvel's Trinity:
Only because it was silver age, but honestly, to me, it will ALWAYS be Everett's Namor. Always. He's perfect.
Totally agree. Everett's Namor is classic (also, Everett's Thor is pretty swell):
We are the only ones who apparently feel this way. I am shocked.
Totally agree. Ditko's Spidey is legendary:

While I have a nostalgic fondness for Walt Simonson's Thor, I prefer Oliver Coipel's Thor.
And definitely Ron Lim's Silver Surfer. So sleek, so shiny!
