The Squad was involved with global events all the time when Ostrander wrote the book. They also went to Apokolips, met Darkseid, and then there was the time they tried to liberate a kind of magical fairytale kingdom.
But the whole Nightshade/Enchantress storyline and Apokolips adventure came after a lot of cloak-and-dagger covert ops missions with the Squad, so it's not like they just thrust the team into that kind of stuff off the bat.
Well, I guess they kind of did if we count Legends :p.

Of course, but they could and did go there quite often. I think they even started to set up that Nightshade/Enchantress story during the very first arc.
And immediately after the first arc they fought the Female Furies.
What was Legends again?

I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say they went there quite often, but when they did it was usually something that they built up to and the cloak-and-dagger missions and intrigue were more frequent.

The first Post-Crisis crossover where Glorious Godfrey turned the public against the Superheroes to lead into an Apokolips invasion.

Good, the less Guardians the more Avengers and Black Panther.
-
ugh. I'll probably pass on this. Feels like DC hiring Joss Whedon all over again

haha found my silver lining

Honestly with the inclusion of the X-Men and Fantastic Four stuff, they were probably looking to make more room for stuff anyways.

I do like how some people are still trying to convince themselves that this whole thing hasn't been a complete disaster for Disney/Marvel.

"Convince" isn't even a part of the picture.
Disney/Marvel are the Dean Malenko of getting paid.
Anyone who believes this is any sort of disaster at all for them is who is actually kidding themselves.

LOL.
How's Guardians 3 production going?
How's the reception to WB's hiring Gunn gone?

Define "complete disaster" Marvel has the top 2 movies of the year with over 3 billion dollars gross. I think they're gonna be okay without Gunn.

On "Guardians 3" production, see "Dean Malenko" comment. You seem to think it is Disney/Marvel's only path to making a ridiculous amount of money. It's not. Not even close.
As for the bit in blue, fans of that side of the coin are going to get psyched about anything that doesn't instantly go up in their face like an Acme kit.

Come on guys you know it's just a matter of time before we get Guardians 3.

There's a blast from the wrasslin' past. I remember watching the Man of 1000 Holds.
ugh. I'll probably pass on this. Feels like DC hiring Joss Whedon all over again

Not quite - Whedon was called in to deal with a film that was already fairly complete, and as a result it felt like 2 different films taped together. Gunn will be on board from the start of this, which is a much better place no matter who is directing.

Yep.
Disney/Marvel has ways to get paid like Dean has holds.
