I like the design of that action figure.
I like that not only has John's design become iconic for his character at this point, I like that it was a real evolution of the classic GL uniform over time. When John took over for Hal he took off his mask because "he has nothing to hide." Then when the title became "GLC" after Crisis and they let each GL have their own look was when John's outfit became much more black with the green only covering his chest. (though there was a line in the middle and he still had trunks and gloves) Then in Mosaic, John took his gloves off because "he gets his hands dirty" and he lost the trunks and that middle green line. Then finally, for the JL tv show, he got his haircut, green eyes and the green arm bands added back though still keeping his bare hands. And the look was complete!

This looks much better than the McFarlane one I’ve been seeing in stores.

If I didn’t already have a John, might have gotten that to fill in my Corps collection. :p

I would love to see a character driven story arc with a John Stewart origin where we can see some of those points such as taking off the gloves, removing the mask etc. get retold again.
Justice League Endless Winter writer, Andy Lanning listed John Stewart as one of the characters that surprised them as he is the focus of that story at 28:34 mark:

He also says it seemed the write thing to do in that issue with that character that story.

this. this is probably my biggest issue with John's costume, it's been so long since these character beats were touched on that I feel people forget the reasoning behind the design. that's why I HAAAAATE when he's drawn with gloves, white, black, or otherwise.
I would have never expect for John Stewart to have swords as weapons. I thought if John was gonna be powerless, he would've dressed up as a soldier as we've seen in one of the episodes of the JL cartoons. It's nice that DC is taking the character in a whole new direction.
Probably wanted to go in a different direction, to avoid comparisons to Spartan from Arrow - considering that Spartan turned out to be John Stewart, but John Diggle is a separate character in the comics because Arrow didn't reveal he was John Stewart with a different surname until season 7.
Diggle has not had that sort of effect on the character of John Stewart.

I'm amazed on how the producers acknowledged the John Stewart fans on that show.
