Which is another problem that I had with these films overall. WAY too much is just chalked up to "will of The Force.". The OT actually out time and effort into building up these dynamical in ways that made sense and you could see. And even the PT tried to. The ST, was just lazy about it.

It's really been done the same way throughout all nine films. From the OT it was explained that "the Force works in mysterious ways" and in the PT that was expanded upon by tying it up with destiny, prophecy, immaculate conception, and "the Chosen One." With the ST, it was drawing people together that otherwise wouldn't be.

It makes no sense given how she's set up as a character for her to EVER be attracted to him in that way, not after everything that he's done. It was so contrived and the fact that they went that route with their first female main hero, who supposedly is a role model for little girls, is iffy on top of it all.

I think a case could be made that Rey was never meant to be this totally perfect character who did everything right. She had both strengths and weaknesses, and perhaps her biggest weakness was being alone and that drove her, like both men and women in the real world, to make mistakes and go for the bad choice. That could be applied to Anakin Skywalker too, but in his case it was knowingly signing a deal with the devil to protect his wife.

Finn and Rey by contrast had a believable connection on TFA that we got to see develop.
Eh, I think initially Finn came across as lovesick puppy and Rey as someone who never had anyone give a damn about her before in Episode VII. In Episode VIII, it was pretty much Rey & Kylo and Finn & Rose, with Rey and Finn only reuniting for a hug at the very end. In Episode IX, Finn was firmly buried in the friend zone with an implication that his connection to Rey was Force-fueled and perhaps always had been.

That connection was friendship, and just putting it out there, the relationship between Finn and Poe was stronger. Poe gave Finn his name and let him keep his varsity jacket because "it looked good" on him. Finn had 2 potential love interests, neither of whom he seemed particularly interested in pursuing. You could read Poe's reaction to Finn's "secret" as having a tinge of jealousy to it and after the climax they ended up hugging each other with none of their women present. Hhhhmmmmmmm? Not saying either were necessarily gay, but their bromance was unique.

The difference between TLJ and Rise of Skywalker, is the former actually treats Rey's attraction to Ren as a mistake.
-
Also to point out, Luke being established as having an interest in learning about his father even in ANH, being told that his father was once a good man by people who knew Anakin personally, and Vader being his father AT ALL, already gives Luke more of a believable reason to be drawn to Vader than Rey has with Kylo. And even the PT does a better job with it than the ST does.
The difference between TLJ and Rise of Skywalker, is the former actually treats Rey's attraction to Ren as a mistake.
So did the latter, really. Rey knew full well that Kylo was bad and following him would take her to the Dark Side. In a way, Anakin faced the same bad choice with Darth Sidious except where Rey ultimately held strong, Anakin gave in.
-
Wasn't it made clear or implied that she saw him as being controlled by Snoke and someone who could be redeemed? Rey in TFA and TLJ is a bit more naive, trusting and to be blunt has an almost child like need for the world to be safe. That is gone at the end of TLJ and in the ROS. I liked the kiss at the end. I thought it was less romance, than a thank you.
Um, it had all the feel of grossness when Kylo kissed Rey. Kylo had major issues, I think deep down he saw Rey as more a splicing of a mother, and sister. The kiss was nothing more than a feeble attempt to placate people that still think white people being intimately affectionate is the norm. This notion is trash anyway Canada, Asia, or the United States and elsewhere.

Aren't Kylo and Rey related due to the fact that Palpatine impregnated Anakin's mother as well as Rey's mother? Pretty sure it was revealed in a Vader comic put out by MARVEL.
And with that we can close this thread down :)

That's not at all what is depicted in the comic. In any way. What is shown is Palpatine using the Dark Side to influence the pregnancy of an already 7-8 months pregnant Shmi.
And considering everything else in that vision was drawn expressly from Vader's fears and twisted by the dark side it's probably not the best source for literal truth.
Just to be clear, both the writer and editor of the issue in question have, at various times, taken to Twitter to refute your interpretation of that issue. It's wrong.
Skywalkers and Palpatines are not related.

I saw it as a one sided attraction from Kylo Ren to Rey. So its better they don't.

But Shmi said there was no father. If there was, why lie about it?

Because they had no idea that years later Disney would bring Papa Palpatine back from the dead because they needed a villain?

Well, Trevorrow has said that he wanted to set up a potential romance between Rey and Poe. It is why he asked Johnson to set up their meeting in TLJ and why they bicker in this (which is probably a hold over from Trevorrow's draft). Apparently, if Trevorrow had done it, he said he wanted Kylo to be the main villain and for it to have been revealed that she was the daughter of Ben's nanny/governness/aid of Leia's. Who Leia recognized had force potential and was sent away to protect her.

Trevorrow left star wars and Disney because of creative differences, it all make sense now.

All this confirms is the entire movie is pure fan fiction writing.

That literally makes no sense.
