The Music News Update
Since the Music Forum was deleted, I'm restarting the music news thread here. But I'm not going to have individual genre threads anymore. Everything is going into one thread. Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, General Music and Country music will all be here.
And when I have occasion to do a CD review I'm hoping it will be okay to add it to this thread as well.
So that's the plan, hopefully people will still be here reading it. And I'm going to copy/paste some of the most recent stuff from the old threads to give it a bit of a kick start. No more than 5 pages back of still relevant material.

First "NEW" music news:

The official Queensryche settlement statement:
"We wanted to let QUEENSRŸCHE fans around the world know that an amicable settlement has been reached between Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton and Geoff Tate with regard to the future of the QUEENSRŸCHE name. According to the agreement, original QUEENSRŸCHE members Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton, along with recent members Todd La Torre and Parker Lundgren, will now be the sole entity recording and touring as QUEENSRŸCHE, performing selections from their entire musical catalog that spans over 30 years of material. Original QUEENSRŸCHE lead singer Geoff Tate will continue to record, perform and pursue a variety of other creative endeavors and, as part of the agreement, will have the exclusive rights to perform Operation: Mindcrime I and II in their entirety as a unique performance. Both sides wish each other well and are excited about what the future holds. We want to thank the fans for standing beside us through this ordeal and look forward to sharing our music with you for years to come.
The QUEENSRŸCHE corporate assets will be evenly divided among Wilton, Jackson, Rockenfield and Tate.
According to The Seattle Times, Tate will embark on a brief QUEENSRŸCHE "farewell" tour this summer before launching a new chapter his career.
"It's the rebirth of QUEENSRŸCHE and the way it used to be," Wilton told The Seattle Times. "We're rebuilding the QUEENSRŸCHE name."
Added Tate: "One thing that's really important for people to understand is that this never went to court. They [Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield] bought the name from me. But I retain 'Operation: Mindcrime'. It's sort of similar to the PINK FLOYD situation where Roger Waters retained 'The Wall'. 'Mindcrime' was my thing and my story, so it's appropriate that I keep that. So they will continue on as QUEENSRŸCHE, and I will continue on as me."
There's so much BS dripping off this statement from all parties, it requires a full body hazmat suit.
Geoff Tate comments on the Queensryche settlement:
"I'm very happy that it's over and done and we can all move on with our lives.
"We've been trying to work something out for months and months and months, and it's like any kind of lawsuit, it's just slow going. But finally I think the realization that going to court over the whole thing was going to be a huge nightmare and huge financial mess for everybody that [we] really started to look at it more seriously and realistically."
Regarding the fact that he will have the exclusive rights to perform "Operation: Mindcrime I" and "II" in their entirety, Tate said: "It's pretty similar to the PINK FLOYD settlement where one group got the name and Roger Waters got 'The Wall'. It's very similar to that. I retain 'Operation: Mindcrime' and everything revolving around that, and they got the name, so it's a win-win for everybody."
Asked what he is going to be doing musically going forward, Tate said: "I can't really give any details now. I'll be announcing some information over the summer what my future plans are going to be. Right now I'm concentrating a show I've got in rehearsals for now in Seattle. I've got five shows doing my Rock In Vaudeville show and when that's done, the last of the QUEENSRŸCHE dates."
He added: "I think just, I'm ready to move on and do something different. And this is a great launching point to do that from, and I'm really looking forward to it."
More than thirty years after setting forth on the musical journey that would become known as QUEENSRŸCHE, singer Geoff Tate — one of rock's quintessential front men and the lead vocalist heard on all QUEENSRŸCHE hits — will be performing his farewell tour as QUEENSRŸCHE beginning in late July.
The announcement of the tour, "Queensr˙che Starring Geoff Tate - The Farewell Tour", comes hot on the heels of the recent amicable settlement with his former bandmates Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield, who will be continuing with the band name.
For the forthcoming tour, Geoff's version of QUEENSRŸCHE will be performing all the hits along with some rarities to celebrate the music he's enjoyed making over the past thirty years.
Although the name will change, the lineup of stellar musicians performing with Geoff after this "farewell" tour is expected to remain the same.
Tickets go on sale for the majority of shows this Friday, May 2 and this Saturday, May 3.

Talk about killing any potential new interest in your band/music.
"Fatal Smile's Mr. Y announces the demise of the band:
"At some point in your life you'll have to 'kill your darlings'...and it's with a heavy heart I have to inform you that I'm laying my dear band Fatal Smile to rest...in peace!
I sure know it's a really bad timing with a new album to be released & we just kicked off our first show of the tour last nite & really sorry for letting the fans down that have bought tickets for the shows... But at a certain point in life you'll have to make decisions if things are really worth doing it...?? I have come to that point when the answer is no, it's no longer worth sacrificing everything in my life, my heart & soul just to keep the 'FS-train' rolling...It's been an epic journey since I started the band back in 1995 & I had a blast doing it & 'living the dream'...
A million thanks to all of you for your endless support & love during those 'Fatal years' & thanks to all the band members during this time...I will sure keep writing & playing music, that's for sure!!!
Also the new album & last Fatal Smile album "White Trash Heroes" will be released as planned on April 25. A few signed copies of the album & 'special packages' is still available for pre-orders at: gmrmusic.bigcartel.com/artist/fatal-smile.
Take care & be well...Peace & Love, Yaksel Unutmaz aka 'MR. Y' / 'Yxan'."

HELLYEAH's fourth studio album, "Blood For Blood", will be released on June 10 via Eleven Seven Music. The CD was helmed by producer Kevin Churko at his The Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada. Churko is the Canadian musician, sound engineer, songwriter and record producer who has previously worked with OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and IN THIS MOMENT, among other acts.
According to a press release, "Blood For Blood" is "a welcome return to form. It leaves a mark, thanks to songs like the angular, vengeful 'DMF', a song birthed by the sort of anger that can't be faked; it will leave you wondering who pissed these guys off. 'Gift' is dirty, rowdy rock with equal parts groove and swagger, but also possessed of the sort of punk rock energy that would make MOTÖRHEAD fans turns their heads. Then there is moodier, more contemplative fare like 'Moth' or 'Hush', which connect on an emotional, cellular level, proving that you can be incredibly heavy in ways other than loud and fast. The album sounds like a recharged HELLYEAH, taken up many notches."
"Blood For Blood" track listing:
01. Sangre Por Sangre (Blood For Blood)
02. Demons In The Dirt
03. Soul Killer
04. Moth
05. Cross To Bier (Cradle Of Bones)

Nazareth has hired Linton Osbourne as their new singer.
Heart fans are ecstatic with the release of the band's evocative and controversial second album 'Magazine' on Hybrid SACD by Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity! 'Magazine' shows Heart while they were still an idealistically young band, before they became such a worldwide phenomenon. Their second album shows the same impassioned songs that marked the band's debut, 'Dreamboat Annie'. They were really hard rockers back then. Ann and Nancy Wilson wove a tapestry of gypsy meets modern woman, and it is highly involved in the early songwriting. The album features a mix of ballads and straight out rock-blues-metal at its purest.
'Magazine' was recorded in 1978 and was a victim of legal hassles with the label that delayed its release, yet the album boasts a mix of light and heavy tracks that are pure Heart. The rockin' “Devil Delight” and the bluesy-rock stomp of “Heartless” - one of their best songs ever! There's the beautiful, sweet acoustic moment of “Here Song” and the smooth “Just The Wine” and the Badfinger cover “Without You” - Ann's vocals are incredible, she has the chops to belt out like Janis Joplin! There's the pure, slow and chugging blues of “Mother Earth Blues” and the stomping live recording, “I've Got The Music In Me.”
Heart's 'Magazine' eventually went platinum and peaked at #17 on the album charts and the album's only single “Heartless” landed in the Top 40.
Tracks include:
Heartless
Devil Delight
Just The Wine
Without You
Magazine
Here Song
Mother Earth Blues (live)
I've Got The Music In Me (live)
Journey guitarist Neal Schon has a new solo CD called So U coming out soon.
"Guitar legend Neal Schon has joined forces with bassist Marco Mendoza (BLACK STAR RIDERS, TED NUGENT, WHITESNAKE, THIN LIZZY) and drummer Deen Castronovo (JOURNEY, OZZY OSBOURNE, STEVE VAI, HARDLINE) to create a unique body of work with jazz and blues-inspired virtuosic hard rock playing, entitled "So U". The new album features Schon, Mendoza and Castronovo splitting vocal and writing duties, with many of the tracks also co-written by NIGHT RANGER/DAMN YANKEES songwriter, singer and bassist Jack Blades.
