Yup, it was down to Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, and Justin Timberlake. Director Martin Campbell wanted Cooper, the studio wanted Reynolds. The studio overrode Campbell and he then proceeded to make Reynold's life miserable for the entirety of filming--to the point that Reynolds was so put off by the experience that he couldn't even bring himself to watch the GL movie until a few weeks ago.

There was never any chance of that movie not being a disaster was there? Least Reynolds met Blake so it wasn’t a total wash for him

Yeah, everyone involved all seemed to agree that the entire production was a case of too many cooks with no clear vision guiding the film. It was corporate product from beginning to end.
