I'm cautiously optimistic about a live action Cowboy Bebop. But Netflix let me down with Death Note so I've been burned.
I need a trailer before I judge more seriously.
Well they did wonders with the Fullmetal Alchemist movie, I'm sure they'll do right by Cowboy Bebop.
Can't wait to see the climax...

I just don't think this could work. A lot of what made Bebop was the amazing late 90s Sunrise animation. It's not something that you can translate to live action.

Netflix was just a distributor for the Japanese-made film. Same with BLEACH.
This doesn't seem to be the same.
Where is Ed?
And Ein?! ( 10 chtrs)

Not cast.
Rumored for a late S1 debut or S2 debut. The talk was this season was going to show how they all come together.
This is now listed as Q4 2021 ... Coming soon!
Took Ed at least a few episodes to show up in the original series too.
The series was delayed I think because Cho broke his leg, and then COVID after that.
The cast looks pretty good to me so I am hoping for the best.

The guy who plays Jet is kind of young (looks 30 something) for the role ain't he? Always saw Jet as the more "fatherly" figure of the bunch. Whereas here him and Spike are very same generation. On the flip side Vicious looks like the oldest of the lot and he's supposed to be around Spike's age.
(I know none of these actors' ages, just guessing on looks).
The cast looks strong but hollywood has a record of turning classic beloved amines stories to garbage. I hope this movie can at least turn out like Alita.
Isn't making a remake of a television show even more of a waste of time than remaking a movie? You're just going to spend even more time covering the same ground as the original but in live action.

Apart from the character's backstories and arcs (Mainly Spike's) I think the concept is fairly flexible/episodic enough that there might be original stories instead of just copying the anime.

No matter how good an anime is there is a huge percentage of people who will never watch it, but those same people might watch a live action show.

That attention to detail makes me really excited to see this. I wasn't super sold on this before but this sneak peak was fantastic.

Wow, it's something else for the opening credits to a new show to give me that level of nostalgia. Bravo Netflix.
Liking what I've seen so far. Reminds me of Sin City in a way. By making the characters live action, the show seems to make them very realistic, like either Spike, Jet, or Faye are really against the odds.
Some fans arent' feeling it. Me, I'll wait and see.
Apart from Ed-and also in a way, Faye-the characters generally were drawn in a fairly realistic fashion, at least compared to the "big eyed" anime stereotype.
Maybe that's why Ed will never work. The character is animated like she's made out of rubber. A lot of anime gets criticized for not giving the characters smooth, Disney-style animation but Ed (and Bebop as a whole) largely featured some well-animated stuff.

It reminded me of Sin City as well, but not in a good way. I won't judge the show based on the intro, but from the bits they show, I'm concerned about the cinematography of the show making it look cheap. We'll know for sure when we see the show - I'm psyched to see what they do with it.
It was great to see some recognizable characters from the anime, though.
I thought it looked fun and I'm hoping for some new stories than a straightforward adaptation.
I wonder if they have done the Ending Theme in live-action as well.
I wonder if there will also be a Firefly Easter Egg in there as well.
I wouldn't say it's an absolutely faithful re-creation. While some of the poses are similar, the original series opening never had all those shots of all those other characters from the series (Although funny thing is, a fair amount of anime openings do feature events or hints at things that happen at some point in the series, but Bebop is one of the exceptions). There's of course the missing Ed (The 'hand pose' is there but it's obviously not Ed typing)
The English background text has also been 'flipped' to Japanese. Also while there's plenty of Swordfish II, a little bit of the Red Tail and of course the Bebop herself like the original sequence, Jet's Hammerhead is absent.

I realize the opening isn't a 1 for 1 of the anime opening. Faye dance is completely missing for one.
Kind of curious what's up with the knives they've given Faye. Apart from the infamous scene from the movie I don't remember a lot of stuff involving Faye and knives. Maybe to give her a more distinct weapon/skill set from Spike?

Kind of a knock against animation, ain't it? I never had trouble feeling like they were really against the odds watching the anime back in the day.
Ein For The Win!!!
Wow, they really did a great job in the trailer. That being said, I remain completely confident that Netflix is going to FUCK this up so bad.
I especially love that the response by the Faye actress about the costume controversy was absolutely...masterful. Can't wait to hear her further thoughts about fan expectations.

Kind of curious how Mad Pierrot works. He's definetly a character that was very extremely animated (By I think some of the BTAS crew).
Also might be the reason for no Ed.

Did I read somewhere this will be a bit of a prequel in sense or am I imagining things?
I think they said something about "expanding the canon" but the opening seems to strongly imply they're doing adaptations of at least a few episodes.
Regarding Mad his backstory is covered extensively in the actual episode so there's no need for any prequel.
Bebop without Ed, Birds of Prey without Oracle, live-action adaptations are rough if you're a fan of computer-savvy carrot-tops XD
To be fair though, Ed doesn't really appear until around episode 9 in the anime and also is written out of the show before the two part finale. She also really only gets around 4 spotlight episodes-Jamming with Edward, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mushroom Samba and Hard Luck Woman (and the last one is kind of shared more with Faye).
Ed is still an essential part of the crew once she joined. Her not being in is a mark against the show.
Ed was always one of my favorite parts of every episode she was in. She was just such a fun and marvelous goofy character.
Official teaser trailer, actually quite clever.
Official teaser trailer, actually quite clever.
It's almost too clever for its own good, imo. There are moments when it feels to me like they're literally acting out scenes or exchanges from the show, but the tone in live-action then becomes kinda cartoony. And compared to other anime, it wasn't a "cartoony" cartoon despite having a lot of the goofier anime tropes and slapstick. I know it's just a teaser, but maybe they'll have one that captures the more solemn space-noir western feel that counter-balanced the sillier moments. That's just my gut reaction. (it reminds me of the "Speed Racer" movie in not the best way)
The fighting looks pretty good though, and I think Cho works as Spike.
The new Teaser is pretty fun....damn I haven't seen the anime since I was in college....atleast now I can watch both. ;).
