She celebrated after she shot Adrienne in the X-Men Unlimited story where she swindles Batman.
Even in Gen X that was never a plot point.
In contrast Emma concerned trolled Magneto over his drinking in New Mutants by Claremont
No one ever said she wasn't a hypocrite on certain things.

Don't think she fits the criteria for alcoholism anyway even by the basic CAGE criteria. I think the only think she's ever taken was an Eye opener and that was during the afternoon.
It doesn't fit her personality and adds nothing to the character just making her a poor man's Tony Stark. There are plenty of other stories to explore and no indication of this in the characters history

I think it'd be hilarious if she did become a barely functioning alcoholic. Just gets more drunk that usual one night and stumbles into Scott and Jean's bedroom to cause a scene, lol.

Just went through the Gen X issues. She shot Adrienne in issue 70. Gets up to go to her board meeting on 71. Next time you see her is issue 74 up again and functioning ready to work. Then in issue 75 she is smiling content after dreaming of Adrienne gets shot. No indication of any plot like this

It wasn't explored until later. But it is telling that just about every scene she's in in most books, she has a drink in her hand.
Making her an alcoholic doesn't hurt the character.

Not really, they're appropriate uses of alcohol. The only inappropriate use is in the nuff said issue that I can think off. Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Psylocke have more inappropriate uses of alcohol then her. And Frost doesn't binge drink either
I don't believe it fits with the character and it's a storyline that's already been explored thoroughly with other characters.
Which issue was it explored in?

Holding a wine class is to show she's posh

Emma as an alcoholic doesn't make sense. She's very punctual and in control... being an alcoholic who misses work or meetings or sleeps in like Jessica Jones would be OOC IMO.

She can easily be a functioning alcoholic. There are different levels of addiction.

Emma is known to be a functional alcoholic...

Mama is a lush and a functional one at that. Only Lady Mastermind can't hold her liquor

Not everyone that is an alcoholic is a mess. People tend to have a very close minded view of what it means to be an alcoholic but there are many facets to it and as others have stated, she'd be more of a functional one

She doesn't exhibit features of a functional alcoholic. She doesn't binge, she doesn't obsess over drink, she doesn't crave drink, she doesn't surround herself with people who enjoys drink, she never had any disorderly behaviour while drink, she's not hiding drink. All those are still features of even a functional alcoholic
On the flipside Nightcrawler Psylocke and even Scott binge. Have exhibited disorderly behaviour while drunk

Emma is just flaunting her expensive bottles during those scenes.
Only time I could see as her being an alcoholic was when she woke up in the middle of the night for a drink in Rosenberg's run. But she had a bomb in her head and had sold a mutant vaccine to Callahan so I would have probably been drinking too.

You could swap out all those wine glasses with a white cat it would have the same effect. But agreed with the above post it's to show she's sophisticated and posh

Why should someone with complete master over her brainīs biochemistry use alcohol to numb her senses?? She uses drinking as a pose to impress others who canīt have the same control... I see it as Logan smoking and having a laugh because he has a healing ability that protects him from cancer
