Sounds like an idea that got tossed around during the retreat and someone really would not let it go so it made its way into the side story. I wouldn't doubt if something similar was proposed for Fury (i.e., he has never been kept young by the Infinity Formula).
-
Well can't say Dum Dum will be missed by many. Marvel is directed by 2 things in 2014: Movie-merchandising and "diversity". Dum Dum was useless for both, since he's too old as of Captain America: The First Avengers to be in any more MCU movies.
He already had been an LMD for a very long time when Civil War went down...
I was comparing Dum-Dum the LMD to Fury the Human
It was nice to have a character acknowledge how offensive the whole "man on the wall" thing is. Shame it had to be a robot. A robot who then committed robocide.
I wonder if anyone in editorial realizes the famous "Man on the Wall" character in the movies was a psychopathic narcissistic and completely full of SH**. He was the outright villain of the movie

Without establishing what the threat is that the "man on the wall" is protecting the world from, he just looks delusional.
And I thought that Quartermain died in Hickman's Secret Warriors.
Maybe. I know Erik Koenig and Gabe Jones died, but there was a bit of a bloodbath towards the end and Quartermain could've very well been part of it.
Exactly! So the question is, who is a recognizable/distinguishable character in SHIELD now? Clay Quartermain? These organization is even more faceless than the TV show.
Jimmy Woo, maybe Monica Chang and Agent Preston

People brushing this off as nothing have no heart or soul, afaic.
Dum-Dum was better than any Avenger.
Clay Quartermain was killed by Samson in a Hulk issue.
-
Well that's really dumb dumb.

Dum Dum being ''dead'' will be retconned. Either that or just ''ignored''.
-
So which newly minted or already established Marvel character is going to be hyped up to take on the mantle of the 'Dum Dum'? 'Battle for the Bowler Hat' has a nice ring to it.

I'm hoping the same for all of Original Sin. It's like a worse version of the Clone Saga on meth.

Well, I personally don't think it's been ALL bad so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that.
-
Personally, i thought it was a pretty insulting death. What was the point of retconning his entire existence since the end of WWII and then just killing him? Seems like it was just done to insult the character. I am more upset that such a dumb story came from Ewing though. He's one of Marvel's best writers right now, and this kind of dreck is below him.
And as many said, he can easily be brought back from this... and will.

As others have mentioned, Quartermain died in Hulk and Jones in Secret Warriors. Basically all of the old school SHIELD guys are gone now.
Did anyone notice that they didn't censor the word a**hole? Printing error or have standards relaxed for the T+ rating?
This should be the real story here. I couldn't believe it when I read the word in the comic. I had to look to make sure it wasn't a MAX book.
All five members of the Dum Dum Dugan fandom are going to be devastated.
LOL!
And I mean that literally -- just now, I truly laughed out loud when I saw that line. I don't do that very often; I've grown too jaded in my many years of online discussions with my fellow fans regarding the cheap stunts that Marvel and DC pull to try to keep us buying their comics for a few more months . . .
