I don't normally stray too far from Classic Rock but there are exceptions. It recently occurred to me that this stunning record is now 30 years old:

The Stone Roses debut album is unquestionably the greatest indie, alternative, however you want to label it, album of all time. As well as the greatest record ever recorded by a band from Manchester. Legendary.

Kim Shattuck from the Muffs just passed away. Their most popular song was probably their cover of Kim Wilde's Kids in America. But I remember this song making the rounds in the early 90's.

Both Green Day and Blink 182 are releasing new music these days. It's a good excuse to remember that they don't exist without bands like Buzzcocks and Descendents/All

It's been a while since Violent Femmes have been posted. I remember back when this record was released it was all over College Radio and even one of the local "Finest Rock" stations.

That was an interesting time looking back...this band, REM, The Replacements and a few others ( I'd even throw in the Chili Peppers) went from being underground bands to groups that could chart, but weren't yet "alternative" cuz the term didn't exist yet.

On that sort of "Mid-Eighties" to "Early Nineties" stretch...
It is always weird to think back to that -
- The Replacements were on a major label until they broke up.
- I think that Soul Asylum might have been on two or three major labels in the run up to when folks finally became aware of them.
- Robyn Hitchcock may very well have been on a major label during that period of time.
