Uh what the hell is wrong with Betsy?
-
I think, maybe, she doesn't want the sword because she already took the amulet, and by using the sword she would negate the mantle of Captain Britain... I'm not sure at all.
-
Uh what the hell is wrong with Betsy?
I think she really did want a griffin after all :p
-
Betsy needs to make up her damn mind. Does she wanna be Captain Britain or not? And why would she?
Don’t even know what to think with this brief interaction.
-
Uh what the hell is wrong with Betsy?
haven't you heard ?!? her IQ dropped considerably according to the latest x of swords handbook
The mouths, man. Geez.
IKR I was thinking the same exact thing.

Right? Seems weird also because I've got the impression she was willing to take the sword if needed. Is this a sign she's attached to Amulet? Is she mad she got drafted? Is she worried about Brian going? I hope Tini takes the time to give us a proper justification for this behavior.
-
Ok, so I think two things are going on here with Betsy. She's refusing the Sword of Might because it would be expected that she would return the Amulet to Brian, which is what Saturnyne wants so it's probably a good idea to resist that. I think she's also interpreting Brian bringing the sword as a passive aggressive play to have the Amulet and title of Captain returned to him, possibly also (incorrectly?) inferring that Brian doesn't think she's suited to the role of CB.
So were Betsy, Rogue, and Gambit just hanging out at the Citadel this whole time? They all saw a demonic horde swarming on the place and were like, that seems like someone else's problem?
-
I think it's clear that Betsy is upset that Brian grabbed the sword when he specifically said he shouldn't because it could be terrible for him.
She is angry with him because she is worried.
-
haven't you heard ?!? her IQ dropped considerably according to the latest x of swords handbook
I LOLed when I read that. Brian has Intelligence level 5 and Betsy has level 2. The writers of the handbook clearly think she's lacking in IQ, haha.
-
Sometimes I forget that Brian has a PhD and is supposed to be super smart.
He never acts like one.

I think she's angry because he's giving the sword to her, and giving her the Sword of Might is basically saying "you're the violent and murderous twin, you should take the Sword of Might and I deserve the Amulet"
-

Well, Brian is smart.

Hm, some of the least ‘smart’ people I know have PhD’s, they tend to be experts in their field and stunningly good at a very small range of things. They are often clueless about day to day living and/or lack emotional intelligence.
Look at Brian and the rest of original Excalibur, Meggan has much more empathy, hell, Rachel, who has had a deeply shitty life has more empathy. Kurt and Kitty have more emotional intelligence. But Brian is technically more intelligent than all of them except Kitty.
-
So after the stasis issue is X of Swords over or is there more? Cause right now all this just seems like build up.

What I mean is that according to official statistics, Brian is intelligent as Sinister, T'Challa, Xavier or Otto Octavius can be, but he never shows his intelligence.

That's just the first half

He was very smart in the original Captain Britain comics. I think that's why Hickman put him in the Illuminati in Time Runs Out.

Yeah but rarely is he characterized as someone who stands out for his intelligence.
Fun fact: I've been checking the official intelligence rankings and NANNY is possibly one of the smartest mutants in all of Krakoa.

He did a bunch of cool stuff in the original Excalibur run. He created the Midnight Runner and the Moonlight Flint

It's something Captain Britain fans have complained about since Claremont put him in Excalibur, but unfortunately most American writers love to write him as stupid and arrogant. He's an example of a hero who has become stupider and less capable as time has gone on, though Paul Cornell did try to put a stop to that.
That's just the first half
Good cause I would have been disappointed.

No, he probably wouldn't, but I can see Betsy being mad about that.

Also in the og CB stuff, especially when he discovered the supercomputer below Braddock's Manor. He's supposed to be very smart.
-
I get Betsy getting mad, but it seemed a bit premature? She automatically assumed Brian brought it for her before he even said anything. It probably would have been more in character to have him tell her she brought it for her, and THEN get really mad about it.
-
I'm more interested to know when Brian and Jamie became so chummy? In Hellions this week, Jamie was still being he same a-hole he always is and Brian was still meant to be in deep depression over getting the sword. Seems everyone has done a 180.
-
haven't you heard ?!? her IQ dropped considerably according to the latest x of swords handbook
Lol I wouldn't take the handbook too seriously or as definite canon when none of the current x-writers or even editors were involved. They put Logan fighting skills at 7 and his durability at 3 and 4 with the adamentium skeleton when his durability was always described as his strongest asset and put Apocalypse fighting skills at 3 and speed at 5. They said Monet became an X-men in 2014 when she became one during Morrison era in 2002 along with Madrox (who according to the handbook became an X-man in 2018). According to the handbook Rahne, Firestar and Blink are "new recruits", they didn't mention Magneto's team from Uncanny 2016 run and didn't mention the new mutants, gen x or x-corps.

I agree....
I understand everybody's point of view on how she's acting this way in this thread....but I feel we need(ed) at least maybe a scene before this where Saturnyne talks about what she expects from Betsy and Brian in the tournament.
-

Well he did say “i brought it for you” but even if he hadn’t I would think she’s already assumed hence the whole “go stick it on the sigil.” If he was intent to use it himself he didn’t need to come on this part of the journey. He was probably thinking he’d give it to her and she’d give him back the amulet.
-
This is a bizarre interaction. I'm seeing everyone thinking Betsy has some sort of weird passive aggressive complex about the sword, when the entire reason they're coming is to bring it because the conflict requires it.
Ugh, she's just the worst.
Whoever does this is going to be putting their life on the line for Krakoa. The bolded 'come get me when you need someone to go through the gate!' makes it sound like she's mocking him for being human. Is she angry that she thinks HE'S been chosen for this? I'm just really, really confused.

Welcome to Tini Howard's Excalibur.

You have a very good point there.
as for the pokemon's post...clearly a hater.

Do you mean me? Kirby isn't a Pokemon. And I'm less a hater of Excalibur and Betsy in particular than I am baffled by the handling of all this.
-
I love the lack of energy that this book keeps delivering. You go, Tini, give us nothing again, girl!
-
You know, a lot of the previews aren't the very first pages of the books. We are probably missing some context here. But judging by her saying she'll keep the amulet and the narration about how she was thrust into the role of (a resented) CB without any time to even comprehend her own new skin, her storming off is clearly a response to the mounting doubts harbored against her. Oh also plus the severity of the situation (the 10v10[9?]).
I really can't tell why it's so difficult for people to understand what's going on. If anything, it's a little heavy-handed in its delivery. Y'all were expecting hugs n kissez & tea time or what
Also since Kirby is so confused why she would smugly say call me when u need me..... precisely because she's mutant and they always need her, but currently is resented because she's mutant. That's not hard to parse... nvm

My thoughts exactly! I couldn't have worded this better. That's more or less what I understood !

Man, I maintain Marcus To is a great artist (psycwave's avatar - gorgeous!), but R.B. Silva really fits the vibe of the title so well.
