Is this one of your favorite runs, Electricmastro?

I'd replace Surfer with Nighthawk, but yes! I would love to see an original Defenders cartoon.
i miss them, hoping they rise this year

I'd have both. Use Nighthawk, Hellcat and maybe Clea as the second-string team members who only occasionally go on the big missions -- but mostly stay behind at HQ. But once in a while, they go on their own missions -- or assist the big guns. And bring in guest-stars -- like Red Guardian II, Daimon Hellstrom, Yellojacket, Devilslayer, Gargoyle, Power Man (loved his as a Defender).
What's people opinions on the New Defenders during the 80's, with Val, the 3 X-Men, Moon Dragon, Gargoyle and Cloud? That's when I started reading comics full-time so I wasn't familiar with the original team until much later.

141 was my first issue and I remember how tripy it was with the green tentacle monsters straight out some anime. I was like, "why is Iceman and Angel with this weird team?" At the time I knew about the X-Men from Spider-man and His Amazing Friends, so seeing those two really drew me in.
I liked the book, but it wasn't my favorite. But since it was one of my first comics, I remember it fondly.

Someone at Marvel loves this era, as it's been collected twice, in the Epic Collections series, and by itself.
I think this was an interesting and experimental era of the Defenders and fit, as you said, the tripy vibe that Defenders usually has.

Yes!! Love it all.
I read most of the New Defenders issues, but that era is mostly disappointing -- especially in comparison to the glory of teh Gerber eara -- and even the Kraft era. Those are the eras I picture when 'Defenders' is mentioned.

I have all the Defenders Essentials and was planning getting the Epics to finish off my run. But according to the OP the last Essential ends at #124 and then there is an Epic that starts at #126. So that means I have to miss out on #125 and find it in the back issue bins... or have an Epic that is mostly stuff I already have. Ugh.

I don't have these books in front of me, so I can't physically check them -- I got the info from Amazon or Marvel.com. However, I think it's a difference in naming conventions. Essentials and New Defenders call #125, New Defenders #125. Whereas the Epic Collections just call it Defenders #125. So, Essentials v6 and Epic v7 end with issue #125. If you start with Epic Collection #8, you shouldn't be missing any issues or doing any double dipping.

I missed that. Thanks. Makes things easier. Now to get those two Epics and read the entire run.

It's hard for anyone's run to compare to Gerber. ;)

Awesome! I've been wanting to do a re-read of Defenders myself.
