It's not a needed name. If the Men's division was called that, I would agree. Either delineate both or drop the sex from the title. They could even memorialize titles like the Sammartino World Champion or the Stratus World Bantamweight.
Switching to weight classes doesn't necessarily mean they're doing inter-gender matches. I don't think many men in the WWE would qualify for feather, fly, or bantam kayfabe. And vice versa. Kayfabe.
I really think they're just looking at turning the women's titles into WWE World Bantamweight, WWE World Featherweight to go along with the other titles. While women traditionally fight at the weight in WWE, you do open a story if you want to have a Spike or Marko Stunt take a run. Kind of like how they presented the IC title a few times, "Traditionally held by men, women like Chyna have held the title."
The women want to be on the same level as men and not treated as second or being minimized.
They don't need the word women in the title. It's 2020. We can see it's 2 women duking it out. It's superfluous at this point.
so can men go after the title since it's not gonna be a "women's" title?
Do you want to go to work and be recognized as Employee of the Month or Woman's Employee of the Month?
And Becky was the loudest voice for this change.
Lol. There are no women's divisions at my job. There isn't a 205 or tag team division either.
Pro Wrestling is simulated combat sports, and in non scripted combat sports. Designation are based on gender and weight class.
Getting rid of the Divas title made sense. That's a silly name for a fighter.
A women's championship match headlined WrestleMania. Erasure of identity doesn't mean equality.
He should be. Nothing wrong with that. He sure as hell isnt a heavyweight:)
I've always been a fan of feds having more, inclusive weightclasses (Heavy, Junior, Light, Cruizer, etc.) or just not having them.
MY preference is no weight classes in a fed.

In theory but I really do think this change is more about giving the current women's titles more gravitas.

Point taken.
I do think if they called the Men's Division ... Men's, this would be moot.
I also think, as I stated earlier in this post, it's more about gravitas.
The World Heavyweight Champion sounds pretty cool. So does the World Bantamweight Champion. I think that's what Becky is pushing for.
To put it in comic book terms, Invisible Girl is pretty diminutive when Sue is a woman.
I think that's the angle. Agree or not, some women find being gendered ... annoying to say the least.

As long as it doesn't mean regular intergender wrestlling matches, I don't care what they call the belts.

This.
I don't think that's the driver here, either. Or the reason behind the proposed changes.

While I care, I 100% agree on no intergender wrestling.

It will cause needlessly confusion because you have two different titles with the same name.
-
Right, it will cause confusion. I want to know what it's about. The title Woman world champion is pretty fine, or something like that...

If they do the bantamweight or flyweight thing doesn’t that leave the big girls out in the cold??
“Divas” title makes a lot more sense now, anybody can be a diva

I saw this coming when Becky started calling herself "The Man".

They could use other weights. There's 3 titles. Bantam, feather, light. Light could be the "big" title much like the Heavy is for the men. Or have a universal title with a different name, no weight.

From what I read, it actually is a way to avoid the inter-gender wrestling questions.
I.e. there's no reason for Becky Lynch to want to go after Brock Lesnar's belt because her belt is equal in prestige and called the same thing.

But it's not.The prestige of the title or how it's book depends on the holder of the title.
Becky reign as Raw champ is far superior to Bayley's reign as Smackdown champ. Is it because Becky is a better in ring performer? Nope.
Booking makes a title more prestigious . Nothing else. Erasing gender doesn't help at all.
Ask CM Punk, who got more shine during Punks historic title run.... Him or Cena?

these are my thoughts on this whole gender matter as well.

I don't really get why people are against Inter-Gender wrestling. It's all scripted, so why does it matter

Lightweight doesn't exactly inspire a lot of respect
