And given what a massive slut Zeus is, there's no reason why they couldn't both be his daughters. It'd fall right in line with the Zeus of Greek myths XD
One as daughter, one as "grand" daughter(not that we actually see her father who is probably not Zeus in disguise) works fine too.

So who are her father, mother and grandmother?
So who are her father, mother and grandmother?
I assume her mother is still Helena Sandsmark and her Dad is still some dead guy named Lennox. Given Zeus' track record, her grandmother could literally be anyone....or anything.

I wonder where Cassie still plays in Wonder Woman lore

Right now? Her unimportant niece -___-

I mean aren't they sisters since Zeus is still Cassie's father? I wish they stopped and thought what to do with Cassie. Just a reference or too. We get that in Superman or Batman comics. Why not Cassie

Nope. As of Bendis' YJ run, they're still going with Cassie's New 52 status as Zeus' granddaughter. So Diana is her aunt.

While her role could be bigger, to have any of Wonder Woman's supporting cast make it into an animated series it seems like a blessing.

She, or Donna, was planned to be there in the first season from what I recall. The reason she, and Donna, I think finally appeared in the second and third seasons was because DC re-negotiated the rights over Wonder Woman with the Marston estate.

Wasn't she supposed to be on the team instead of Ms. Martian but for some reason they couldn't?

I think it was supposed to be Donna.
She was but a clause in the rights over Wonder Woman was that unless she was major character in a show then neither she or her supporting characters could appear. This is apparently also why Donna wasn't in the '03 Titans show and why Diana didn't show up in the DCAU until JL.

No, I actually asked him back when he had that whole Q & A thing he used to do. It was in fact Cassie he couldn't use. Though she was not intended to have been there from the beginning or replace Miss Martian. Her role on the team wound up instead being given to Rocket.
As for the why of it, you can blame television for that one. From what I heard the issue sprung from weird legalese from the Wonder Woman tv show

Yet another reason why Young Justice is my favorite animated American superhero series bar none..... :)
