If y'all are comic fans and are looking for free mods, you really, absolutely, positively, cannot do better than mods for the Freedom Force games. There are tons of them, from art assets for pretty much every character you can imagine, to total conversions that let you play through campaigns with teams of your favorite characters. They're the greatest superhero games of all times, not least because of their modability.

Aren't most mods free anyway?

Anyway, gotta throw out one of the biggest mods out there; Pixelmon for Minecraft. Be it from Technic or independent of it, Pixelmon is easily one of the biggest mods for minecraft there is. With over a dozen (I think it may be closer to 2 dozen?) dedicated servers, most with their own little bits that make them unique. And while the servers are free, many of them include online shops that you can either get rare and/or shiny pokemon, extra perks, etc, in exchange for real money. Not to mention that the servers tend to have their own economies (pixelmon money) as well.

There are though lately there have been a few modders that have their mods behind a patreon wall.
