I really should have stuck with Classic Thor. New Thor makes me sad.
But seriously though, are we comfortable saying Surfer can get fancy stuff off under incoming fire? He will be multi tasking all of the incoming projectiles + whatever mild nuisance Emma will be providing.
I guess what im really asking is, was the black hole feat even "fancy"? Or did he all of blink and make the thing?

They're not providing even a nuisance, really.

He just tore it open. It was a considerable flare of power and all. But it was basically a move.

I mean he's used it like a squid uses a cloud of ink to cover his escape. That feels pretty caz and quick?

So if we make this classic Thor w/Mjolnir...what outcome?

I honestly don't see it changing much. Surfer's output is just too high.

Well, he's still quicker on the draw. Even if Thor could do something, it wouldn't be before, say, the Surfer opened a singularity in his face.

Can't Thor open a wormhole in Surfer's face?
-
I would say with everything equalized and classic Thor, he can certainly do more to counter the Surfer's stuff. His main problem boils down to that if this isn't super recent She Hulk, the initial mutual death frags are going to kill everyone not the two of them.

Not without spinning the hammer. All Surfer has to do is think it.

Eh, I mean has Savage She Hulk done anything to imply (or the Hulk for that matter), she'd survive getting sucked into a singularity ?

I was leaning off the notion that everyone just blasts each other from get go for a minute, but yeah, there's that. I suppose it depends on how you roll with either's current empowered-ish states of being, but yeah. (And granted with the Hulk that's started to come off like 'super mega healing factor' far more than high end durability at times).

"Super mega healing factor" is largely how I am viewing his upgrade. Perhaps an overall strength boost as well.

If it's a scenario, no...plopping this into the middle of NYC doesn't quite qualify for that, mind, so I was kind of 'ehhh, not sure if this is what Arby is looking for, here.'
Moondragon with the mind gem has full out mindblasted the Surfer, an earlier move of doing so having completely messed up Xavier. He just got back up. The Surfer has a pretty solid bumper crop of mental/spiritual resistance performances.
I had vague recollections, this confirms it.

Boots. Rocket-powered boots, or some similarly ridiculous stuff.

It's not really so much 'under fire', as the majority of this stuff he simply ignores.
That's outside of other people noting that yeah, he just...opens one up. ^_^

OK, going to post a counter argument, then another counter argument:
1. Speed equal, Magneto ought to be absolutely capable of stopping Surfer from opening a singularity, or at worst shielding his team from same, given that he has opened singularities before himself while resisting the effects of same trivially, and outright stopped reality warping and dimensional convergences, all be screaming MAGNETS just a little bit louder.
2. If the Surfer goes for that tactic, it's going to let everyone else act, and this means that Classic Thor can set up something nasty.
3. Oh wait, this is CURRENT Thor. Crap.
4. Given that Magneto can stop the singularity technique or at least shield against it, and that Surfer isn't an idiot, he probably WON'T lead with that.
5. Instead, he just turns everyone here into teacups.
6. That probably doesn't work on Thor, given what it takes to transmute him (a vast eldritch machine harnessing the power of the galaxy-busting sword of Surtur, this being quite a bit more oomph than Surfer generally has at his disposal).
7. But now, it's just Norrin against a non-Mjolnir-carrying, Thor-shaped doofus. And that's just not going to end well for the doofus.
Mileage may vary.
