In the context of the series, James Ellison was first an antagonist of Sarah Connor and then an ally. Skynet sent a Terminator to kill and replace him, probably both to get to Sarah Connor and Catherine Weaver, a T-1001 (slightly more advanced T-1000 with its chip set to read/write) that had gone rogue. It failed.
Great series, wish it would come back for another season.

Idris Elba could be a good choice.

I am in the same camp as others. The franchise is dead and has been run into the ground. Time to let it just go away for at least 15 years or more.

I’m not sure if anything left can be done with the franchise.
We’ve had it where Sara is dead and John is alive.
We’ve had it where John is dead and Sara is alive.
We’ve had one just set in the future War.
We’ve had time travel shenanigans affect the first movie and reboot it.
We’ve had John be evil.
We’ve had a new chosen one.
Dark Fate was a last hoorah for Linda and Arnold.
But there’s nothing else at this point to sustain the franchise.
In real life, we’ve used the internet and computers for decades now. Why sure we fear machines.
Oh please no!
No, not the black bit but of there being another Terminator movie. Just let the damn franchise die already. How much more do people want to drag the classic first two films down into the mud?
1. The original 2 will always hold up, no sequel can ever drag them in the mud. So why does it matter?
2. The fact that the movies are still profitable means some fans still enjoy them. You can easily refuse to watch any more sequels, so why deprive the people who don't want the franchise to die?
I will never understand the desire of some for a franchise with many fans to end just because they personally are done with it and don't enjoy new entries to it. Just stick to the films you enjoy and let the people still watching these things have more to look forward to.
Edit - On topic, Kevin Hart as the new Terminator.

Maybe wait til 2029. The media can give Lotsa free publicity with "hey isn't this the year that
..". Maybe with Jordan Peele writing and directing
.
They gave the Terminator **** twice and it didn't save the franchise. Not sure how a black one would help.
What about black ****?
What about black ****?
Why does this feel like the greatest question ever?

So I finally saw the most recent Terminator movie and I have to agree with others who just say let this franchise die. If there had never been another Terminator movie then this one would have been okay on its own as on its own it had a decent plot and action. Problem is that it doesn't exist on its own and all the movie did was piss all over the prior movies and especially John Connor.
Now if they somehow wanted to revive the Sarah Connor Chronicles on TV and give us an ending I'd could go for that but otherwise just let it die.
