Almost funny (in a twisted sort of way). It's as if the Obit was published as an insult and counter to Trump's arrogance.

If Trump tries to take credit for killing Baghdadi, don't give it to him. He definitely doesn't want it. :p
Everyone during the Bush administration wanted Osama Bin Laden dead just so they could brag Bush got him more than anything else, rather than dealing with a radical terrorist leader that, ironically, the Americans helped bolster back in the 80s because Reagan didn't want communist countries but the Vietnam War's unpopularity meant he couldn't just engage in armed conflict whenever he saw a government he didn't like. That's why people credit Obama with killing Bin Laden; he managed to use intel to figure out that the man wasn't in some supervillain mountain fortress newspapers kept speculating about, but instead a somewhat armed and fortified mansion in Pakistan that was more realistic.

In other words, this wasn't the most well planed out mission and it didn't go as intended.
There was some bungling, and they had the intentions of capturing al-Baghdadi alive for possible intel on the whereabouts of other ISIL leaders (you know, the point of these operations?), but as far as Dump is concerned, he Won Bigly, Huge Success. And when reminded that this doesn't end the threat of the Islamic State as there are other members that can take the mantle and continue the message, Stump shrugged off the reporter as "fake news" before saying that America finally won the War on Terror once and for all and to suck on it, Obama.
I'm certain that didn't happen, but I am also certain that would have happened. The man is that removed from reality.

Trump was golfing when the raid occurred. Photo of Trump was staged after the fact.

That and to maintain support among his base which translates into power over Republican representatives in Washington.
Hopefully this backfires in epic fashion. That these rallies don't help him come 2020 election and the Republicans in Congress are stunned. They too end up getting voted out in Senate. That way a defeated Mitch McConnell can muse how wrong they were to back this entire train.
I'm hoping the 2020 election changes things. Its all I can hope for.
WASHINGTON — The surprising information about the Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s general location — in a village deep inside a part of northwestern Syria controlled by rival Qaeda groups — came following the arrest and interrogation of one of Mr. al-Baghdadi’s wives and a courier this past summer, two American officials said.
Armed with that initial tip, the C.I.A. worked closely with Iraqi and Kurdish intelligence officials in Iraq and Syria to identify Mr. al-Baghdadi’s more precise whereabouts and to put spies in place to monitor his periodic movements, allowing American commandos to stage an assault Saturday in which President Trump said Mr. al-Baghdadi died.
But Mr. Trump’s abrupt decision to withdraw American forces from northern Syria disrupted the meticulous planning and forced Pentagon officials to press ahead with a risky, night raid before their ability to control troops and spies and reconnaissance aircraft disappeared, according to military, intelligence and counterterrorism officials. Mr. al-Baghdadi’s death, they said, occurred largely in spite of Mr. Trump’s actions.
It’s a wonder that raid hadn’t deteriorated into a clusterfuck and cost the lives of soldiers. Had something gone horribly wrong, would Trump have owned up to that, given his ill conceived pullout? Of course not.

He would have used it to justify the pullout. To Trump the only fair game is heads he wins, tails we lose.

Yeah, some Sunday copy editor messed up. But Mets. no comments about all the out and out lies Trump has made about this? Surely if you are upset about this mischaracterization, Trump's insane presser would trouble you?
He fucks up his own good news. Imagine if he hadn't done the yo yo back and forth with Syria and the Kurds. Listen to his advisors let this planned mission happen with no backtrop of betrayal and letting the Kurds get slaughtered. Then hastily send Pence to negotiate a "cease fire" AFTER Turkey attacked and killed Kurds who ONCE AGAIN were providing vital intelligence to OUR interests to enable this kill.
He could have had good news to counter the impeachment inquiry.
Now he will crow about this and it wont be broadcast to his followers how he almost fucked it up. But, its also another example of how the Kurds were true allies giving us valuable intel and highlights our betrayal.
