Where Byrne's Superman rejects his Kryptonian heritage as nothing more than a curious reminder of a possible life, and declares himself human. in contrast to Tomasi's Superman, who was depicted as proudly accepting the fact he's a Kryptonian, just as much he's a child of Earth.
What do you think, is Tomasi's Superman intentionally a foil to Byrne's permutation?
No I don't think so. Tomasi's Superman much like all Post-Byrne Superman iterations was a hybrid of Byrne's base philosophy's with Pre-Crisis elements baked in. Ultimately he was still propped up on a tractor trying to push the image of the country boy and was trying to raise his son in the mold he just tried to get him to embrace the Kryptonian stuff too.
The antithesis to Bryne's Superman was pretty much Pre-Crisis Superman. One grew up perfectly normal, the other grew up with powers and a fledgling Superhero career. One Clark was an all around athlete who was popular with women, the other Clark was a poindexter and a coward. One placed Superman as less important than happily ever after with Lois and the other placed being Superman over finding love with Lois. One grew up on a farm and the other grew up in town and worked in his dad's store. etc.
Nah Rebirth Superman was a sort of middle ground between the Pre/New 52 and Post Crisis Supermen. He still identified as human first and foremost and still placed Lois over his heroic duties as Superman. However he did take more of an interest in his Kryptonian heritage and encouraged Jon to take an interest as well.
There's sort of a chance if you were to assume Byrne's take, unlike any other take, was encased in amber and never developed. Which given the fact that Byrne even worked on the proposal to Lois from the original point of hating Clark, can't be true.
Comparing directly to Tomasi, the Rebirth Superman spent more of his free time on a farm than the Superman Byrne wrote for about two years. He was slightly more hostile to Batman in Rebirth considering years of knowing him, although technically you could call them strangers to an extent for the first half of that volume.
Lois wise, in Rebirth he came directly out of the post crisis relationship with Lois. In Reborn we saw that Exile was canon along with Krimson Kryptonite and Action #662, so it's fair to say that the original arc is mostly intact.
Power wise, he was more or less identical in intelligence between both. Generally strong earth based college academics. Advanced college level of mechanics mixed with Kryptonian tech and general superheroic horizon experience. He wasn't as innovative in the Tomasi run as he was immediately post crisis or pre crisis though, actually. But of course he had the strength boost that Byrne's didn't get until the late 90s or so.

Yeah, that's how I look at it, too. People change, and they grow, and this Superman was no different. Post-Crisis Superman got bombarded with facts in such quick succession that many people would likely half-reject at least some of it to steady themselves (and if you look at Byrne's arc until exile, that was kind of an early pattern of his - ignore/push it aside until it's a problem, then finally deal with it). But his "Exile" time in space changed a lot of his perspectives, and thus the large shift toward what we see now.
Imo, anyway. :)
