Wagner is a good choice for the atmosphere and mystery; but, question is, can he deliver the humor? I think so, as Mage had plenty of it; but, that would be my one reservation. The Spirit needs to be handled with a light touch (looking at you, Mr. Miller).
I have all the confidence in the world in Wagner's writing it's the art that I'm worried about. Dynamite has a tendency to hire no name artist big on technique but low on style. All of their books look so damn boring!!
Hopefully it won't be as bad as the Flash Gordon run Dynamite produced.

The art is my concern as well. Dynamite has a couple of artists I look for like Aaron Campbell and Colton Worley but they tend to give these books to faster guys. Its not super encouraging that they didn't announce the artist along with Wagner.
Been waiting for Dynamite to announce their plans for the Spirit. Wagners a good choice.

What are you TALKING about? Both of the recent FLASH GORDON series were pretty fantastic.
Well, Matt Wagner is certainly the perfect choice to write this, but I'm hoping they have him on the book as art director or designer as well. The Spirit is about design more than anything else, and that's one of Wagner's specialities. Dynamite has credited Matt as art director in the past on his Green Hornet and Zorro runs, so if they can't get an established artist, hopefully they'll pair him with someone working for his page design as they've done in the past.
I am interested in checing this out. Can't wait to see what is going to happen at SDCC this year. I wonder if the will be selling issue 1 early then, or just talk about it.
I'm excited to see how Wagner tackles this . . . but worried as hell about what artist they'll get. They need someone who knows how to be realistic, but with a lighter touch. Many artists that Dynamite has used in the past have been a bit underwhelming in books I've read. :(

I'd say that the ones that Wagner has worked with have done quite a good job, but like I mentioned in my early post, Matt's been acting in an "art director" role for those books. Of course, it probably didn't hurt that one of those artists turned out to be Francisco Francavilla, but Aaron Campbell and Esteve Polls have also done some great work with Wagner.
And there's always the slight chance that Matt is illustrating this himself, but I doubt it.
(My dream choice would be Steranko, but that's even less likely.)

Oh, I love his art. That would be a great and interesting pick. Would love if he did it.

Yeah, another good Dynamite artist that's worked with Matt.

That would really suck if he drew the book. I do not care for his rushed, sloppy "noir" styled art.
