I don't know whether Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention belong in this thread, but if they don't, then just scroll down. From 1967: Brown Shoes Don't Make It. Truly, um, "nasty" stuff.

Zappa is definitely welcome. There's a Capt Beefhart song I'd post but I haven't found a good version yet.

Bow Wow Wow was made up of ex members of Adam and the Ants and their manager was Malcom Mc Claren who was the ex-manager of the Sex Pistols. The was a minor controversy concerning their cover of their album. It was a parody of a Manet painting with their singer Anabelle as the nude woman. It wasn't raunchy in anyway, but the problem was that Anabelle was 15 when the photo was taken. They had a few pop hits in the states. "Do You Want to Hold Me," "Baby Oh No," their biggest hit was "I Want Candy." Candy is still used in multiple movies and TV commercials even today.

New Order was a kind of post punk/new wave/dance band that was formed from the ashes of Joy Division after the death of Ian Curtis. NO was a pretty successful group, their biggest hits were probably "Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle". This video was pretty much a straight faced parody of "Hair Metal" which was extremely popular in the mid-80's. If you weren't there, you might not get the joke, but the gag is that they were aping bands like Poison etc while in fact being the complete opposites of that scene.

I remember seeing Fugazi years ago in a just before gentrified Wicker Park at "Chicago's Rippingest Club", Club Dreamerz. It's kinda funny how fast it went from being known as a neighborhood of elderly European immigrants and latinos to being yuppie hipster central in the early 90's.

Before her solo career, Bjork was the lead singer in The Sugarcubes. 'Birthday' is probably my favorite song of theirs:
