But I don't think pure physical strength is always a decisive factor in a fight.
It would depend on what I knew about the woman and her level of skill.
Then you think the top female fighter today could beat the best male, Frontier?
-
This also applies to combatants of different sizes. At the elite level of combat sports/martial arts, after a certain amount of weight, the difference is just too much to overcome. (For example, A 140lb boxer would never even be allowed to fight a top 10 ranked 190lb fighter, let alone a heavyweight champion.)
Exactly. The smaller fighter might be the best pound-for-pound, but he would be destroyed in the ring against a heavyweight.

in a life or death fight? possibly. a lot of our top fighters are fighting in a very particular context, all bets off and I'm willing to bet there are top women fighters (or simply top smaller fighters in general) you could take down some of these bigger top male fighters.

Okay, but would you bet big money on that happening? ;)
But, it's comics, so it the in-universe rules matter more.
Agreed, half of the feats these characters have aren't even realistic.

I'm not one to put money on something I can't control, if I place a bet I'd need to know more about them than their size and gender; especially when there are no rules, and doubly so when we're working with fantastical levels combat ability :p

In weightlifting, the strongest man can lift twice as much weight as the strongest woman. Men can simply grow more muscles than woman.
Didnt Cass get beat up by Flashpoint Batman in less than 2 minutes?

Wow, a rare occasion where the men vs women stuff is leveraged and poster actually is comparing same or like items. Kudo, for that I suppose. But the Flashpoint reference flops boots. It an elseworlds style continuity schmontiluity poop show.

Whats wrong with Batman being able to beat up his underlings (even though its an alternate version of him)?

Yeah, this was, uh...not a good look for the Batfamily.
I suppose in the comic book world, elite women like Black Canary and Shiva are so unbelievably skilled that they can overcome differences in size, bone density, etc. against elite male martial artists, right?
Not trying to be disrespectful or start a huge debate, but the question seems to ask who does best hand to hand, and people generally tend to underestimate the importance of size & strength. It's a different question to who is the most skilled.
It's something I myself thinking about a lot, so it's cool.
Overall, I definitely think that a males size and strength should definitely be a factor considered, but in the end it's comics, where the definition of "peak human" is benching like 1,200 lbs for several reps. So overall, in fights I would definitely like to see male fighters show superiority due to size and strength, thus female fighters rely more on speed and resilience.
Like I imagine a fighter between Black Canary and Bruce to essentially go with him being able to easily manhandle her, but her being the superior fighter she knows how to get herself out of all of it and eventually win.
Overall, a female fighters I feel would almost always struggle against a male fighters, even those not on her level due to size & strength, whereas a male fighter wouldn't struggle with someone beneath their level due to size & strength not being a factor for them to overcome to win. Ie. Black Canary would still struggle against even basic/untrained street thugs while Batman wouldn't at all, but she can still beat him.

She gets my vote.

Black Canary gets really overrated imo, especially in the current continuity.
She doesn't really have the kind of special training that the others have, and not many really impressive feats.

Dinah is at least on par with Dick Grayson, right bellow Bruce, I'd say.
Hell, Shiva offered to mentor her once, and really rspected her skills, which I don't think is that common with Shiva.
The one that boggles my mind as for people considering a great martial artist is Jason.
