This naive and dumb. You are talking about war. To save innocent lives you still have to risk your own soldiers lives, kill other soldiers lives, and still risk civillian casualties for a purpose that has nothing to do with you. And lets be real blunt, the majority of the time we are doing it, it's some bs moralistic story to cover that we had an alterior motive.
It's not our job to play world police force half way around the planet and contribute to violence to feel better about ourselves. War is messy, it exists throughout human history, it isn't going away. Sometimes you have to realize when something that has nothing to do with you is not worth the cost of lives and potential fallout.
So a new Auschwitz would be possible on your watch. Good to know.

The last US intervention was Dubya's foolishness in Iraq - with no plan to stabilize the country afterwards beyond wishes and fantasies it ended up creating a bigger problem than it was trying to solve. A problem that persists to this day. You could consider the effect that has, or you could take the false equivalency route and apply Godwin's law.
You have to always be aware of when you should intervene, lest you create a bigger problem than the one you are trying to fix.
Something more lighthearted...
Parts of Melania Knavs-Trump turned 49 years old this week, and the White House chose the worst possible photograph to congratulate her on Twitter, which brought on some very creative photoshop work in the replies.

The White House Twitter account chose to use an image of Melania trump looking alone in a room full of people to wish her a happy birthday? WTF
They come from all walks of life: tradesmen, soldiers, a student teacher, a financial analyst, an aspiring lawyer, among others. And they are in every province, in communities large and small. They gather on the internet to strategize and seek pathways into mainstream politics. They are anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, Islamophobic, sexist and racist. They are young and radicalized. They are the new far right in Canada.
The Globe and Mail has obtained a trove of 150,000 messages posted between February, 2017, and early 2018 that reveal the private communications of a loosely aligned node of Canadian right-wing extremists. The record of their continuing conversations reveals a movement, energized by the rise of white ethnonationalism in the United States, that aims to upend a decades-old multicultural consensus in this country.
The discussions reviewed by The Globe and Mail originally took place on a text-and-voice application called Discord, an app meant for gamers that is also popular with the far right. The group called itself the Canadian Super Players, apparently to disguise themselves as video gamers.
WASHINGTON ― President Donald Trump’s “reckless” response to the investigation into his campaign as detailed by special counsel Robert Mueller shows that he is unable to rationally process risk, making him a danger to the entire nation, according to a new analysis by a group of psychiatrists.
“The singular reaction is perhaps indicative of the extent to which the president is, as with his contrary reaction to Russia’s attack on the integrity and validity of our process of electing a president, preoccupied with himself to the point where he does not even consider the good of the nation,” states the report, which is being released on Friday.
The report bears an unwieldy title: “Mental Health Analysis of the Special Counsel’s Report on the Investigation Into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election.” The authors’ chosen subtitle, though, goes more to the heart of their thesis: “If One is Too Incompetent to Commit a Crime, Despite Trying Hard, Is One Competent to be President?”
Oh I forgot the US entered World War II to heroically stop the Holocaust and stop all the atrocities. Oh wait they didn't even know it was going on and waited until they were attacked first.

They did know. Here are some late 1930s newspapers that covered stories about German atrocities towards Jews.

Nobody knew the extent until they got there. And nobody joined the war because of it. They joined because Hitler was a madman who was threatening everyones interests everywhere.
So it's not applicable comparison to what's going on with Assad. He isn't trying to take over the world. He isn't creating alliances that are going to cause harm to US soil. He isn't a direct threat right now. To go to war with him, would be to cause more harm to his people, risk our soldiers, and you don't even have a guarantee that whatever is left isn't just a catastrophy of a situation OR leaves someone worse in charge. Both have happened in the past. We don't have a good history with this.

Bill Maher Accuses Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of ‘Stalking’ Trump
On Friday night, Bill Maher opened the latest edition of his HBO program Real Time with some groan-worthy dad jokes about the controversy surrounding Joe Biden, who announced his presidential candidacy this week.
“It’s obvious: the ‘woke left’ is not excited about this,” cracked Maher. “They’re like, ‘Oh great, another white guy in the race.’ So today, Joe announced that he is transitioning and the woke people loved that, but then he fucked up his own gender pronoun and now they hate him again.”

Calling Robert Mueller “a conservative” who was “going to follow established policy,” Rep. Schiff said he didn’t think it was “realistic” that the special counsel would indict the president and those that did were being “unrealistic in their expectations.”
The congressman did, however, conclude from the report that “Russians were engaged in a systemic effort to interfere in our election; that the Trump campaign welcomed it, embraced it, built it into their plan, made full use of it, lied about it, covered it up, and then obstructed the investigation into it; and, if we had any doubt before about this president’s fitness for office, there is no doubt remaining: he is unfit for the presidency.”
Maher then pushed back. “But this was our big gun. Now it just looks like you’re stalking him,” he said. “I think in the eyes of the people who don’t follow it that closely, which is most of the country, here’s the thing about Bob Mueller: he’s the last thing in America that left and right agreed on. Left and right basically agreed, this is a guy of honor, this is an honest guy, an honest broker, whatever he says goes…The fact that he was like umm…If you couldn’t impeach before, how are you going to impeach after? Or should you?”

A gunman armed with a semiautomatic rifle walked into a suburban San Diego County synagogue and opened fire on the congregation Saturday, killing one person and injuring three in an attack that authorities believe was motivated by hate.
A 19-year-old was arrested in connection with the shooting, authorities said. The gunman, who is white, entered Chabad of Poway on Chabad Way about 11:20 a.m. and started firing.

Poway Mayor Steve Vaus called it a “hate crime,” based on statements the shooter was heard making as he entered the synagogue.
Authorities were reviewing his social media accounts and an “open letter” he reportedly wrote before the attack. They were also preparing to search his home in Rancho Penasquitos.

Not only that, there were Jewish refugees who were turned away from entering the US at the time, and were forced to go back to Germany and many of them died in the Holocaust.
Bottom line here: we can't say that we should never intervene or that we should always intervene. We have to take it on a case by case basis.
