Question for those here:
What was/were your favourite X-Eras?
As you can probably tell from my pics...I loved Claremont's 80's/90's era the most. Spanning The Brood Saga right into Genosha/Outback and including his definitive New Mutants, the Simonson's X-Factor, Excalibur and Generation X.
I loved that while all the books were separate in tone and premise they were cohesive and felt all in the same universe/world/moment (thanks in large to Claremont). I loved that Storytelling across the board was very consistent. And visually, they were illustrated by the now considered "masters" of the field.
I loved that they didn't take themselves too seriously, that they delivered pure high-fantasy escapism without trying to mimic real-world/moralistic sensibilities.
I loved that they were character-driven stories rather than Story-driven characters.

My favorite eras are:
Claremont/Byrne
Claremont/Smith-RomitaJr (Brood Saga till Mutant Massacre)
Claremont/Lee (from Siege Perilous till Muir Island Saga)
New X-Men / X-Treme
My least favorites:
O5
Post-AoA 90s
All New / UXM (Bendis)
-
Thomas/Adams
Claremont/Byrne
Claremont/Smith
Claremont/Romita JR
-
My top four runs (sort of top two eras):
All-New by Claremont/Cockrum; Uncanny by Claremont/Byrne
New by Morrison/Quitely/etc; Astonishing by Whedon/Cassaday
Kind of interesting how the two most revolutionary periods in X-Men history began with runs that were cover titled "all-new" or "new", and then each were followed up by runs beginning with powerful adjectives (Uncanny, Astonishing). No doubt Morrison had "All-New, All-Different X-Men" in mind when naming his own series.
I also love the Claremont/Smith stuff, Claremont/Romita Jr. stuff, the First Class comics by Jeff Parker and friends, Adams/Thomas, Kirby/Lee, the whole era from Messiah CompleX to AvX Consequences...lots to love!
(And that's just for X-Men - Sienkiewicz/Claremont New Mutants...PAD's X-Factor...X-Statix...Uncanny X-Force...Weapon X by BWS...all great)

I strongly agree, especially the bold.
Excalibur Claremont and Davis
I loved Excalibur up to the point they wrote Rachel out (sob) and then it just wasn't the same without Rachel. I know I first started collecting around the time that Excalibur #1 came out and I traced back to get issues where Kitty and Rachel had appeared previous to this. Excalibur was definitely the starting point of me collecting comics.

Excalibur was arguably Rachel's best showing...ever.

This is so lame. They should have included core characters like Angel, Havok.
