It's definitely one of those things where I feel like the rest of the writers and Bendis weren't on the same page post-Secret Wars. Like how that Gwenpool issue had Miles say he remembers nothing about his mom being dead. We got that Venom crossover, where Miles only alluded to his mom getting [I]"hurt"[/I] by Venom in the past, and even the Miles Morales annual that came out last year had a 12 year old Miles story set during the 616 Secret Invasion storyline.

I really feel like this was on Bendis for just not being more clear about the exact circumstances of Miles' jump to 616.
I mean, I get not wanting to bog down the ongoing book with that, but a one-shot or a clean cut explanation in a handbook would've been nice.

I'm guessing it's him maybe kissing Vulture-girl? I could see why that would bother Bombshell.

I'm thinking Miles lets his guard down around her and she ends up snatching his journal and learning his secret identity.

Bombshell being bothered by it implies to me something romantic happened.
I don't think she would be as bothered by someone learning his identity unless...I guess she thinks he deliberately told her and Lana sees some flirting (if only on Vulture-girl's side)?

Love the issue's cover. Might jusy be me but after issue 2 the covers started getting a bit too cartoony and exaggerated for me.

Really hoping O'keefe stays on as the cover artist for the long term going forward.
-
Yeah, the covers were definitely a bit too cartoony for me, especially since that style has never really been associated with Miles. I get wanting to bring a bit of the style from the movie to the comic, but it doesn't really fit. It's also a little ironic that the art director form Spiderverse is the one to break the chain from the cartoony style and I hope we move on from it.
-
Wait a minute, Nevada, casinos, they're in Vegas? How is Ben Reilly not involved then?
-
Gave the issue a read before I got into work today and I found it pretty enjoyable.
[spoil]Major theme of it is even though Miles is playing hooky from school, it doesn't mean Spider-Man gets the day off. He ends up repeatedly having to break away from Judge and Barbara to deal with a crisis.
Vice Principal Dutcher actually gets characterized as the Anti-Jameson ironically enough; he thinks Miles is a menace but is a big Spider-Man fanboy and feels that students could stand to learn to be more responsible like the iconic figure like him.
Judge is totally nonplussed about Miles constantly ghosting on them while Barbara is clearly annoyed since she can tell Miles is coming up with bad excuses of why Spider-Man suddenly shows up when he is not around.
We get introduced to another new villain; the Frost Pharaoh, who attacks the museum exhibit that the trio happened to be visiting.
Issue ends with Miles getting legitimately sick from the exhausting day.
[/spoil]
Javier Garron's art is definitely the highlight here, especially with a really impressive splash page of the trio having to rush back to school. We get a detailed map of the route they took and the detours that were made lol
-
[spoil]Was the vice principal's explanation supposed to reasonable because I really wasn't feeling it. Even without him knowing the Spider-Man stuff he should know Miles got in through the lottery so it's not like he got in with no effort. Add that to the fact that from what we know Miles is doing fine academically and he's well liked not by his fellow students, but by the staff as well and he just comes off as obsessed. He's also a bit too cartoony for me to take him seriously, unless that's the point, but even then all the faculty we see him interact with think he's being an unreasonable weirdo. He just seems like a source of forced unnecessary drama
Other than that it was a nice one off story. The art was good, though it's still going to take some time to get used to everyone looking so old. And still not feeling the Barbara and Miles relationship.
Also those Doop pajamas Ganke was wearing were great. That's what I'm talking about when I said if you're gonna wear a onesie have fun with it and go all the way.[/spoil]
