No such thing as "permanently" in comics.
But yeah, pretty much.
After 70 years with red trunks these trunks dissapeared, they can dissapear again.
Your words to God's ears, I absolutely hate those trunks.
Seems so my distain is back for it too
At the end of the day, I prefer the red trunks.
Maybe because that is how I saw him for most of my life
or maybe when I see him in them I realize how foolish he looks
how absurd and cartoonish ............. like something out of a comic book .

Despite I said that I don´t hate the trunks. I only say that they can use one excuse for use Superman again without trunks during certain time.
They can replace Clark temporarily for another character as Superman in the earth and this character don´t use trunks.
I never had a problem with the trunks before they got rid of them. I just feel like since 2011, in many non-callback stories they became a symbol of the attitude that "he's not really Superman without the trunks" and I came to hate them.
If that sentiment could go away, if they could stay gone and occasionally come back for nostalgia without the sense that the writer or artist is bitter that he doesn't wear them all the time, that'd be great.
I mean heck, in Action # 1000, most of their appearances looked great. Natural. And then Jim Lee drew them and I just went "wow, he should never draw that costume again, it just looks really stupid." So I think Superman's costume should just be whatever thing the artist is best at drawing mixed with whatever the writer wants for the story, and without any lampshading.
The thing is, now that its been done, now that the particular taboo was broken, its going to be much easier in the future to do it again. And I wholly expect it to. Superman is like every other character. To use a specific example, look at Spider-Man. His classic is his classic, its always going to be there. But there are times that he changes things up. I could easily see this happening for Superman now, depending on the writer and artist, and the whims at the particular time. Its not taboo anymore. The classic look will always be around, but it'll be much easier to trade out once in a while now.

I'm hoping for a lot more and a lot longer than once in a while. Don't like the trunks in a modern setting.

I'd be perfectly okay with this development, and honestly it can't happen soon enough for me.
I'm on the anti-Trunks camp, as I despise the idea that he's not Superman without them on (just like Adekis).
Superman's look is perfect, no need for a change. I'm sure they'll try again someday, and as long as they come up with better designs than the ones they've given us for the last few years, I'll be open to it. The MoS and Reborn costumes both came pretty close.
Hopefully. I think Superman looks so much better with the trunks and they are an iconic part of his look.
The red trunk help the costume from not looking so monochromatic. It gives a break in colors from the top to the bottom along with the red boots.
I think that any flashbacks of Krypton should show people wearing capes, boots, trunks and chest emblems. Maybe not everyone all the time, but enough to establish Superman’s look as native to Krypton.
Of course, Superman has always worn other outfits during his storied career (as the Man of Steel and as Clark Kent—and in other guises). This would be a worthwhile thread, looking back on all the fashion choices over the 80 years.
MoS was the first issue I read with Bendis, my first issue with the trunks back. I was afraid that I'd (unintentionally) find them an eye sore even though I never had an issue with them returning and actually believe they are iconic to the character, I'm glad to say I hardly noticed the difference. With or without the trunks, it is still Superman, my number one superhero of all time and will continue to read his stories. The one thing I have the most anxiety over is that the stories going forward be good. That's all I ask/want.
The red trunks have got to go.
They look super stupid now.

Totally agree dude, trunks are awful. They make my right eye twitch lol.

The costume looks stupid without them and they just bring the whole thing together IMO.

Haven't had one issue with them, and neither has anyone that's been praising Bendis' run so far.
As usual, the smallest voices are the loudest.
"I'll take 'Quotable Quotes' for a thousand, Alex."
"Answer: 'Those red trunks have got to go!'"
"What did Lois Lane say on her wedding night?"
"Right."
I just hope she didn't say "It looks super stupid now" once he did. ;)
I never really cared about the trunks, but from a business perspective I thought the costume needed to evolve years ago when almost everyone else dropped them. It was just time for another step. But they never bothered me personally. Like Clark said when he met Gen13 "I've never been fashionable. So I can never be unfashionable." But now, after seven years without trunks? They look odd to me. Like I'm looking at Batman in his first costume with the purple gloves. It's classic, but it's just....off...now. I thought I'd get used to the trunks again, and I probably will, but it hasn't happened yet.
I didn't care for Lee's design, but I really liked the Reborn suit and the Morrison t-shirt and jeans. Reborn was a near-perfect update, all it needed was the belt to be thicker. And the Morrison design is the perfect expression of Superman as the folk-tale hero. It's so perfect I sometimes wish it had become the new norm (along with the Future's End beard).

Personally for me the only thing the reborn suit was missing was the wrist cuffs that rebirth Supes had. That would've made the reborn suit perfect imo.
As for the trunks, in the past I was all for it, now as Ascended said it just doesn't look right to me. Then again maybe time is all I need to get used to it again.

I could have sworn the Reborn suit had the wrist cuffs? No? Ah, okay, then a thicker belt and the wrist cuffs. I know some fans dislike them, but from a design standpoint they probably should be there.

That's what I'm assuming. Maybe by the end of MoS it'll look normal again.....

Well the reborn suit does have the cuffs I meant without the trunks the suit would've been perfect.
Totally agree about the belt being thicker though.

Well, IMO, no they don't and no it doesn't.

Well, that initial suit was brought back for Zero Year. so there's that.

I know. And I thought it was a great nod to the past and enjoyed it for the few issues Bruce wore it (though the black ribbing on the shins, ribs, and shoulders seem at odds with the otherwise retro design). But if DC had said "Hey, this is the new regular suit going forward!" I'd have been less than thrilled. That's how I currently feel about the trunks. I'm fine with them in flashbacks, I'd be fine with them if Clark put them back on for a few issues (for whatever reason). But as a regular thing? I'm still not feeling it.
But they just came back. I might grow accustomed to them again. I'm sure I will, it just isn't happening as quickly as I thought it would. But from the business perspective, outside my personal preferences? I still think it was a mistake to bring them back.

Oh okay, I got ya.
The wrist cuffs are a tough issue for me. I mean, from a design standpoint they should be there. Most everything else has that kind of element, other than the neckline. So including them makes sense from my "artist's sensibility" (I have a background in graphic design). But I'm not sure if I actually like them being there. I think they might clash with the "hands on, working man" qualities of Clark's character.

I get ya (Artist myself). Clark was always a no issue kind a guy where his actions and looks spoke for themselves so seeing him with other aesthetics that are different from the original would make anyone think twice about whether or not it fit. However, in this case especially from my pov the cuffs work for this "incarnation" or "reborn" Superman look.
If I had my way we never would've had these changes made in the first place and all of us would be at peace with his look to begin with.

Yep! Somethings wrong, something not quite right without them, it completes the circle and complements the whole ensemble - perfectly!
