Yep he did that after Cortez overloaded him and made him expel all his stored energy. In Astonishing X-Men he was also able to absorb the kinetic energy generated from falling from a building. He actually used that to slow his fall from the building in a pretty cool moment.
Yeah, Bishop should be able to pull off something similar to Nitro where he can have an explosive release of energy like a bomb.

That's what I think they should focus on power-wise with Bishop. Not just the absorption but the manipulation and transformation of that energy when he uses it.
This was way back in an issue of Uncanny, when they had the Blu and Gold team. I can't recall the issue #. He was just sitting out in the snow, absorbing the energy released when it touched his body.

Sounds like Uncanny X-Men #311 from your description. Am I right?

One of my favorite issues. Bishop also defeated Creed, and started the friendship with Jubilation in this story.
Also, Beast was pretty heroic back then. Hank & Lucas hung out a few times, back then. Perhaps the current plot regarding their alliance is based on this past friendship.
I'd rather they bring up an obscure character for him to romance
I would prefer Betsy to Jean, though. Though I like the idea of Lucas with Ororo as shown by Lee , Kubert and whoever was writing at the time. They had a chemistry. A smaller character is fine with me too.

Of course. After all, Beast is Randall's favorite philosopher. ;)

Thanks for the panel.
Also, I believe Beast was with Bishop when Fatale was exposed, and Dark Beast first saw Hank. I recall Bishop & Beast catching a movie when Juggernaut literally crashed in after Onslaught knocked the sh!t outta him.
I like Bishop but think he suffers from having come after Cable as yet another gun-toting man-out-of-time character. He seemed redundant in a way. Now, having said that, I think there’s a simple solution: Upgrade his powers so that he doesn’t need guns at all, perhaps giving him a secondary mutation somehow (through some interaction with cosmic radiation that amps him up and unlocks this secondary mutation maybe?).
I’d make it so that he still absorbs energy and powers up, but make him even more like a human battery in that when he’s charged up he becomes more durable/invulnerable and physically stronger, faster and more agile. So he can redirect the absorbed energy as blasts or just turn it internally and power himself up and kick ass physically. In other words, make him less of a “shooter” and more of a “scrapper.”
Honestly I think this tweak would instantly make him more popular, as the scrapper H2H types tend to be the most popular (Logan, Gambit, X-23, Psylocke, etc.).
I do like that one, my only concern is that it would make almost a duplicate of Sebastian Shaw. I was thinking more along the lines of Bishop absorbing an energy signature and then he his body would take on the properties of the energy form.

I meant to say I rather it be Kwannon(Psylocke) not Betsy than Jean.
Bishop dropping his guns would suck. I'd hate that. I really hope I see him interact with Wave again though. That'd be cool.
I at times do feel like he's put in a box powers wise due to the guns.

i'd rather it be betsy than kwannon since she is the original psylocke.

It's a cop-out to me. Writers will never explore his powerset because all they'll do is have him use a gun.
No kind of innovation or imagination.

I'm getting strong Michael Henderson vibes here.
Get this guy a Starship, already.
