For example, say you started a TPB and you hardly knew any of the lore, did you stop reading it? What trade(s)?

Yup! The Wicked + The Divine. Made it halfway through the 3rd issue and called it quits. I had no clue what the hell was going on and did not care enough to figure it out.
Same thing happened last week with Animosity. I thought the concept was so intriguing, but I did not connect with the writing. I think I stopped at some point during the 5th issue.
Moore's Promethea.I didn't care for it at all.
I always read all the way what I buy but I really didn't enjoy Batman New52 by Scott Snyder and stopped at vol.3.

I just read that this past week. I really liked it, but can easily see how it wouldn’t appeal to everyone.
I know that I have, but can't think of any off the top of my head.
I guess that's how boring they were... :p
Scott McCloud's ZOT!
I still have the first volume TPB from Kitchen Sink. Hopefully someday, I'll find the time to finish it.
The Manhattan Projects was just an awful, confusing mess of a book and I gave up on it after about 8 issues.
Fantastic Four Omnibus by Matt Faction is the only Marvel book I have ever gave up on, again that was a confusing mess of a book as well.
I got half way through the first TPB of Monstress and gave up. I'm not saying it was bad, I just didn't connect with it and it just wasn't for me.
Spider-Man: Chapter One, by John Byrne, which was Byrne trying to do for Spider-Man what he did for Superman. I gave up halfway, took out my bookmark. closed the trade and placed it back on the shelf.
The Mystery in Space with Captain Comet and Adam Strange stories from 7-8 years ago by Starlin.
Even thought I hadn't read the Rann/Thanaagar War it was briefly summarized. I doubt that could've mattered much.
I read both of the TPB where The Weird was also involved along with Bizarro but it never grabbed me.
Had high hopes, sold them on Ebay and got back about 40% of my money fees.
I know I have, but I cannot remember what the books are they were so bad. The only one I can remember is Cry for Justice I was about half way through and I threw in the trash.

It gets so much better after they stuck on Earth! I've read it in the complete tpb which doesn't collect the very early issues and the first few issues it does collect are just kinda average but after they focus just on the personal drama when Zot! is stuck on Earth it gets really good.

Im with you. I read maybe half of it before I found myself unbelievably bored.
Secret Wars II tpb. I LOVE the original Secret Wars, but I bowed out of comics before this one came out (high school, cars, girls, guitars, etc... took over!)
I tried to read it last year, and gave up after like 4-5 issues. Just not engaging. Later I flipped the TPB cuz I was never gonna read that sucker ever again. And no, I don't have the omnibus and would sell it, too, if I had it.
