Comic recommendations
Hello all,
IÂ’m new to comics (and the forum) and am hoping to get a few recommendations.
I got into comics about a year ago via the Black Monday Murders series which I love. IÂ’ve also really enjoyed reading Lazarus, Nailbiter, Postal, East of West, Souther Bastards and Deadly Class.
In general IÂ’m more into esoteric or dark subjects rather than standard super hero styled ones. A lot of what I see from the publisher Image looks good.
I have tried some of the Ed Brubaker crime genre and thought it was ok but didnÂ’t enjoy it as some other titles, and have tried some of the titles from Vertigo like Preacher and found those a bit hard to get into.
So, IÂ’m reaching out to the community for some recommendations :) any ideas?

There are great standalones like Koshchei the Deathless and Rasputin Voice of the Dragon.
Brubaker's Kill or be killed is awesome. His runs on Batman, Daredevil and Captain America is what kept me collecting comics.
Scalped by Jason Aaron and Y by Brian Vaughan (?)

100 Bulllets
Sleeper
Garth Ennis's Punisher Max

If you didn't like Brubaker's straight crime series, I'd suggest Fatale which was more on the horror side.
I enjoyed a recent series called Infidels
I'm being pleasantly surprised by The Magic Order
Are into slice of life or memoir comics at all? If so I'd definitely recommend Fun House

Swamp Thing by Alan Moore sounds like a good fit.
Bryan Talbot has written a lot of good stuff, but I'm not sure how easy it is to find in the US. Grandville is his current project, murder mysteries in a steampunk world with anthropomorphic animals. Luther Arkwright and its loose followup Heart of Empire are also good.
Continuing on with Europe, The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec by Jacques Tardi sounds like another good fit.

Yes Tardi has donne some great comics and Adèle Blanc-Sec are some of his bests.
Being French I real a lot of European Comics and I think there are much more variety and better quality in European Comics that it's a shame they are almost unknown to Americans.
