Emerald Twilight for Hal Jordan or One More Day for Peter Parker?

The former, IMO.
One More Day was simply horribly bad story. But it didn't make Peter Parker bad, Mary Jane maybe. Sins Past assassinated Gwen Stacy though.
And Yeah, ET was a terrible thing to do to Hal.

It's a terrible thing to do to any longtime superhero. As I always say when this pops up, DC should have just retired him or gave him even a heroic death.

Didn't want even a potential competitor available should Kyle fail.
Emerald Twilight. Not even close. It was a horrible story that came out of nowhere and destroyed Hal's Accomplishments.
Thank goodness for Geoff Johns. He cleaned up a mess I didn't think possible to do

That's understandable, but a Barry Allen send off could have accomplished that aim instead.
Square jaw plus drinking problem does not equal "character".
Discuss.
:p
White British woman being cosmetically altered to look vaguely asian, given a stripperiffic costume, and jumping into combat vagina first.
Then retconned to have her mind placed in the body of a Japanese woman, who we learn little about, then the Japanese woman is killed so the white woman can live in her body.
Then the Asian body dies, and a Eurasian body is created, while trying to tie the white woman to a culture not hers, and trying their best to ignore her actual heritage and heroic journey, to make her a half nekkid McNinja with a thing over her eye, while she background poses, looks cool, then losses every fight imaginable against non mooks, then she starts losing to mooks.
The original history and characterization ignored in favor of Kewl looks.
Then the attempt to correct is done, but we still learn nothing of the woman and all the changes made to her over the 4-6 (25yrs+our time) years she was faux Asian, because events> character/story is more important. Thus the reversion seems contrived, when it should have had depth to it.
But hopefully things are back on track.

Was Claremont the culprit or were their multiple offenders in this?

I'm fairly sure Jim Lee was the artist at that time. Make of that what you will.
I'm a little pissed at Garth Ennis for how he finished The Boys. Billy Butcher should/would not have treated his friends like that.

The Lady Mandarin story was by Claremont/Lee. It involved plastic surgery to change Betsy.
Fabian Nicieza had read only 2 of the 3 parts of the story but, with the confidence of a mediocre white man, retconned it to a body swap story, contradicting elements from the part he did not read.
Was Claremont the culprit or were their multiple offenders in this?
Technically Claremont wrote the original body swap story but Jim Lee was the artist and was having ever increasing influence on the book and story to the point that Marvel booted Claremont off the X-men not long after and handed them over to Lee. Claremont had intended the swap to be temporary but Lee pushed to keep it. Then when Lee quit to go to Image subsequent writers stuck with what Lee did.
Emerald Twilight. But ironically that was a way better story than OMD. But turning a classic hero into a murderous villain is obviously far more against what said character was supposed to stand for than erasing a character's marriage.
