Deadpool #6 spoilers
I haven't been keeping up with Deadpool, so him being king of Staten Island and having a bunch of monster buddies was all new info to me.
Wade discovers that one of his royal subjects is a mutant named Jelby. He plans to sneak into Krakoa by hiding inside Jelby's body, hoping that his dear old pals the x-men will reward him with his own krakoan gate and a cure for his cancer. He apparently attempted to contact Rogue several times, but never received a response because she was stuck in her magical coma in Excalibur.
Wade, Jelby, and Jeff the land-shark pass through the gate and are taken to meet Emma in the Quiet Council chamber. Emma informs him that his cancer can't be cured, and refuses to give him his own gate or a permanent residence, fearing that his recklessness will destroy Krakoa. However, Emma was convinced by Rogue to allow Wade occasional visits. An angry Wade storms off and tries to steal a Krakoan flower.
The "fascist" X-men attempt to stop him and a giant fight ensues until Rogue shows up to calm Wade down. She apologizes to him and offers a flower, but he refuses to accept her pity and is teleported home by Magik. Jelby betrays Deadpool and stays behind to become a citizen of Krakoa. Back on Staten Island, Deadpool creates a new law banning all mutants from his kingdom and Jeff barfs up a Krakoan flower, setting up Cable #3.

I suppose its pretty in character for Deadpool to be a petulant child at times? Was there anything special about that specific flower? Cause there are lots. Like, was it one of the miracle cures or was it a gate?
The miracle cure for Krakoa! Can cure anything except anything important to any ongoing story or character.

I am almost certain it was a portal flower.
Krakoa doesn't have the cure for cancer, Deadpool should try to get Black Panther to give him the one Wakanda has.

-
I didn't like it. X-Men braking Wade's nose or attacking and stabbing him for no real reason were stupid. Sad for Wade.
-
It was fun as a light comedy, though ultimately just amounted to Deadpool being his usual petulant childish self. Definitely no major friendship between Wade and the mutants left now, even Rogue, as he blows off their offer of "pity" and makes a show of making his Monster island exclusionist of the mutants in a sad attempt at retaliation we know he won't really stand by. Basically Wade got his feelings hurt. But Jeff was cute.

If this is still Kelly Thompson's DP, then I didn't expect anything more. All you had to do is look how she handled Deadpool in that Rogue x Gambit story she had.

Magik getting stab happy upon seeing Deadpool and Storm getting attacked by a shark wasn't humorous, it was just stupid.

Sounds like it, and I am over writers dumbing Deadpool down into stupid. He has his antics, but I want him as a serious character the way Duggan, Bunn, and Joel Kelly had him.
So like many things, I'm just waiting on this end & something good to happen.
The last DP writer left LOTS to be desired, but least they did do some good when they brought back Ellie. I did enjoy those 3 issues which is still better than KT right now. She needs to stay with Rogue x Gambit she loves so much & leave DP alone as she hasn't done anything good for him yet.

Technically they have a "super antibiotic drug for humans". Perhaps they have a mutant version of the one that "cures diseases of the mind" which Wade would likely benefit from. :)
-
But when was the last time we saw a character have a bacterial infection? I can't even remember it.
I mean, in real life that would save millions of lives, of course, but almost always when there are illnesses in comics for drama it is cancer.
-
I have not liked anything Kelly Thompson writes for a while. Everything looks like a bad parody of snarky comments people do on the Internet. And I can't with these "cute pets" characters and how everyone reacts to them. Urgh!

To be fair that lil shark was ****in' everybody up lol. Even I have to admit it was kinda cute. I haven't read Deadpool in a while, but I have to say this issue was ok since I've long accepted the fact that the Deadpool of old is never coming back and he is pretty much Freakazoid at this point.
-
Hm KT didn't seem to rly understand Krakoa . Jelby 4 Quiet Council

Nah, Deadpool being literally a king while calling other fascists is the kind of lack of self-awareness that I expect from him.

how was old Deadpool?

That's true , it was moreso the continuity weirdness that did it for me. Krakoan resources cant cure cancer? (they did on-panel just last week but I'll digress on that) Krakoan resources aren't accessible to the public ?
these are dumb nitpicks lol . I think I'm just salty they were framed as jerks
-
Isn't Elixir an omega level biological manipulator? You telling me he can't cure cancer?
I've never been very interesting in Deadpool. This issue highlighted that disinterest tremendously.
-
how was old Deadpool?
Less goofy for one. I can't say what old Deadpool would've done under the same circumstances, but I know he wouldn't have marched into Krakoa(with his misfits) with a damn crown on his head and making demands like he did.

From what I remember, Deadpool of old was a lot more ruthless and dark. And in many cases, he usually tried to be annoying whenever he was. lol

Yeah that's the thing, I believe back in the day he was purposely being annoying to throw his opponents off their game, kinda like how Spiderman does. Nowadays he's being written as if he's truly mentally unstable on a cartoonish scale.
-
I'm with Wade, the X-men could have at least given him a freakin phone call about it until he literally snuckpast their gates demanding answers. And that dickishness ended up alienating one of their strongest mutate allies and the king of freaking giant monsters.

He can also regrow body parts and yet Hellion had robo hands for years. Its a thing.

I didn't appreciate how immediately violent they were with Wade. I get he's supposed to be super annoying, but some of it felt like straight-up bullying.
-
My take from this book was Deadpool being a Whiny Little %*# and butt hurt for not being invited to Krakoa.
None of it was funny. More like....Uh Ok?
Utterly pointless.
My thoughts Exactly.

So I decided to buy and read this one, because I saw no red flags on treatment of Polaris and the content I saw of her looked like it treated her well. That makes the current comic purchase-and-read rate for me out of Marvel at 1-3 issues every 2 years. Last time I bought and read anything was a few issues of the Uncanny X-Men event in 2018.
Some of what I say may involve things already explained and understood elsewhere, so just be aware I may not have read a thing that explains the thing. I'm also hardly an expert on Emma, Wolverine, etc, so something that I feel one way about may be fine to their fans.
Overall, I felt it was an alright issue. Beginning felt kind of meh. Got more interesting as it went on.
Deadpool referencing the films was kinda cool. Deadpool coming in through Jelby exposes an interesting loophole of characters sneaking in from inside mutants and my first thought is it implies Ant-Man tech could be used to invade the island.
At first I thought the team was called an alpha team because it would be a team comprised of characters considered alpha level. But then Storm showed up, so it must mean something else. Frankly, I'd have preferred if Polaris was part of an ongoing with this group, focused on responding to security threats sort of like a "homeland security" detail.
All the characters posing with their powers seems silly, which I know is the point and definitely fits the comedic parody angle sought here. Just imagining this group showing up, standing completely still and flexing their powers like that.
In my head, the way Magik and Emma talk about Jeff the Land-shark feels off to me. Like it's strange to talk about keeping him like a pet or turning him into a handbag, given what mutants have gone through. Yes, I know it's also part of the playful joking tone, still feels weird even with that. Maybe fans of the characters think it perfectly fits them though.
I did very much like Lorna's dialogue in this issue, especially the line where she said she brings her own metal. It follows what a lot of fans have said of thinking Lorna should bring her own metal wherever she goes as weaponry, possibly even using her headgear for the job.
I'm not sure if Lorna knowing Wade's name is just "he's a known name" or more like "she has unseen history with him so they're on familiar terms." Only Deadpool-tied thing I can remember for Lorna is Deadpool and the Mercs for Money. Wade liking that Jeff bit Lorna was an amusing touch.
The fake letters pages at the end were a cool idea too.
All in all, I think this issue was worth the cost and read.

I haven’t read Deadpool properly in years. I think the last time I read it regularly was... Fabian’s Cable/Deadpool? I was entertained. Enjoyed it even.

I want to know your thought process from reading my comment to posting what you posted. I would really pay two times the cover price of this issue to find out.

Alpha team is more like a defense team which responds to any Krakoa invaders, usually the closest mutants to that location gather to that gate or shore to protect Krakoa, it is a Defensive team and anyone can be part of it, depending on who is nearby. And then the Beta team joins if things get hot and the Alpha team is having troubles. Pretty much what happened when Fantastic Four invaded Krakoa, they were immediately attacked by Alpha and Beta team, and then followed even beyond Krakoa's borders for espionage.
Furthermore, if you want to see more of Polaris, you should check X-Factor, she is part of the main team there.

Thanks for the explanation of alpha and beta teams.
I don't support Lorna being on X-Factor. If she shows up on Empyre, and she's treated well there, I might get the issue she's in. Or the whole thing if she's treated significantly well (e.g. if she has a role where her history with Genosha is not only acknowledged but hugely important).

Sad but true...i think he still has robo hands.

I got a good chuckle out of this, felt Deadpool despite being who he is can show that he can hold is own in a fight...really like Jeff the land Shark both as a fighter and a trickster for pulling a fast one on the X-men, hope nothing bad happens to him and we see him grow up. I wonder if something is going to happen between him and Elsa, will she survive and be added to his list of ladies who don't care he looks like something out of a sewer or just stay friends. Also i wonder if his ex wife will show up at some point.
Finally, this issue just further proof Krakoa will end, why? Because they really, really have shitty ass security. How many damn times do they have to get invaded before they fix that!?
