Talk about all HawkMan and HawkGirl/Woman
Now that Hawkwoman and Hawkgirl exist at the same time, who should be Carter’s soulmate? If it’s still Kendra that would free up Shiara for relationships with other heroes. Like she had with John Stewart in JLU.

As it looks like now it's Carter and Shayera and Kendra and Martin manhunter if you ask me I prefer Carter and kendra since I grow up on them on the comics in the 2000s
It’s looking like Carter and Shayera, which I very much prefer. She wasn’t over the death of Katar in Snyder’s Justice League and now she’s trying to save Carter in Hawkman.
I hope there’s a kiss when she does save him. :o
one of my favorite comic romances :D.

Well, Kendra and Shayera are not soulmate, but they were the same soul.
Somebody was going to say it.
While I prefer Carter and Kendra for reason's I've stated on these boards and am too lazy at present to repost, I will say that I do like Carter and Shayera under the pretense that the latter was once with Katar and he's since passed on. It adds a good wrinkle for storytelling. Carter has the soul of her deceased lover, but there are going to be differences that will be hard to reconcile and I imagine that she would have to wrestle with the conundrum of "did I replace Katar with Carter or are these relationships different enough that I'm not just with Carter as a proxy."
The whole space/time reincarnation makes this a lot more interesting by virtue that, well, how do each of them commit if their beloved is literally in two places at once? Hell, do they settle on monogamous relationships at that point? Who even knows anymore. I imagine they would, but it's certainly something to think about.
I think both Kendra or Shayera work as a love interest to our current Hawkman. Either way, it'd be nice to see the Hawks again.
When's the last time they were even a couple? It seems like decades ago by now.
Honestly at this point they barely even interact with each other, let alone feel like the "eternal lovers" they are purported to be.

Well they just brought back Shayera to the book so we need to be patient to see what happens and right now Carter and kendra are not addressed because of Scott snyder JL run and her romance with MM I'm sure once that ends we will see them finally interact .
Smooth Carter smooth

Oops this is getting awkward, something need to be done about that.

well, cant have both with one man!, dont want DC to get into some polygamy stuff.

Why not there's enough Carter for everyone;)

Not sure what the ending of today’s Hawkman means for Kendra in all this but definitely some pretty big implications/impacts on Carter and Shayera.
[spoil] How do I put this, basically Shayera and Carter sacrifice their current and past lives to stop the Lord Beyond the Void, and both die having saved the universe....but then they wake up as Ktar and Shrra and told by “god” that the debt is cleared and they are freed from the cycle of reincarnation. But neither want to leave another so they are both told that while they will not reincarnate anymore that they will be returned to the lifetime that they hold closet to their hearts and where they will live out their natural lives and die.
That lifetime is WW2 golden age era JSA members Carter and Shiera. Again no idea what this means going forward, and if this means the only present day hawk left is Kendra but for now this is where we leave Carter and Shayera, back in the past with the JSA. [/spoil]

WOW, what a status quo shake up of events!
That is a true spoiler folks so if you are reading along monthly wait for your copy.
I read it cause I'm really behind on reading.

You know what you are right I should have put a read at own risk, because it is pretty big. Honestly I don’t even know what implications it holds for the Hawks from here on out. I like where it’s going and I like what Vendetti’s done but with the uncertainty of what’s next for DC it does add a level of uncertainty to the characters themselves.
I don't think that page takes place WHEN you think it does.
Even if the Hawks end up in Limbo due to what's happening with DC at least they now have a satisfying conclusion to their story.
Weary Hawkwoman resting her head on her lovers shoulder.

Today was the last issue of Hawkman with issue 29, it was a great ending to a overall great run (probably my favorite Hawkman series) but the ending went to some interesting places and I am wondering if it will mean anything with the whole Omniverse thing DC is apparently doing.

I enjoyed the run a lot and I think the ending was solid but it felt kinda anti-climactic. Like
[spoil]Carter stabs himself and they make it seem like it's a seriously fatal wound, so much so that Hath-Set just kinda walks away from him (leaving his knife) but SURPRISE it was just a flesh wound. then they blow up the train and live for like 2000 years; so they're immortal now? I also don't buy the reincarnation angle being done for good. sorry Venditti, you did great making it make sens but that power is probably the most interesting thing about Hawkman. if the trade off is eternal Hawk people and rebirth, rebirth is the more compelling narrative option[/spoil]
all in all it was a sweet ending but just a little awkward in parts for me. still, solid wrap up of a pretty remarkable run. I can't wait to go back and read the full thing as a whole.

[spoil] Actually I think the eternal/long life thing by the end of this issue is helpful in its own way. I'm not sure what it means for main continuity but now there is nothing saying that when the JSA make a modern day return then both Hawkman and Hawkwoman can be long term members like Alan, Ted, Kent, and Jay. They get to say they lived a long happy life together all the way back with their friends from the JSA and into the modern era. [/spoil]

[spoil]don't get me wrong, them growing old is a great ending, it's the idea that they're still around all the way until the 40th century that's off to me. the whole point of them breaking free of reincarnation was to live a regular life, grow old and die together, I don't see why they need to become immortal now. I guess it just feels like a cheaper trade off for the reincarnation so they can keep the "romance throughout time" concept. they could've returned as an aged hero like the JSA typically do without it, ya know? It just feels kinda random and a convenient way to pay off the dramatic clinch at the end of the last issue. It works but it's just a weird move to me[/spoil]

Great issue! So it ends one of the 3 best things DC was publishing. Now we only have Hellblazer and The Green Lantern.
I wish they had at least given Venditti an oversized issue, that way he could have had more space to tell the story. This is my favorite Hawkman run too, just the lack of general angst and the cheap drama in the Hawks relationship already makes it superior to a lot of the recent takes on the characters.
If they relaunch an JSA book, this is the creative team I hope they use, Venditti and Pasarin made an amazing work.
I don't think the issue was the best showing for Hawkwoman. She comes off as incapable of defeating Hastor and is left on a corner basically bawling before Carter saves the day.
I hope the next run features them as equals.
Also, [spoil] if the Hawks remained in the past and basically became immortals, does this mean there were times when they were alive at the same time as their younger selves? Which would mean that during this whole run, there was already another Carter that was alive and reunited with Hawkwoman? I guess it's one of those things we'd better not think about much. [/spoil]

[spoil] I mean I assume that it can still play into the whole reincarnation in space and time with past Carter and Shayera, just that reality was rewritten a bit by the godlike figure that they’ve interacted with. The other thing is that last issue did establish that everyone else sees them as golden age Carter and Shiera, so even if they did run into their previous selves they would just look like older versions of their golden age versions to them. [/spoil]

Hopefully Venditti will get to explain all of it on a JSA run.
[spoil] Maybe Carter and Shayera decided to go underground for some time, so they would not mess with their other lives? They can even launch a book "The Secrets Adventures of Hawkman and Hawkwoman.
About the Hawkwoman portrayal, I believe it was a combination of lack of pages and having to resolve the plot of Carter fearing death.[/spoil]
As a conclusion to the run, I think Venditti could have explained the continuity issues better.
I definitely don't want the next run to be boggled down by having to explain plot holes left by the previous writer. As it is, [spoil] having duplicates of the Hawks exist at the same time as the ones whose adventures we've been following [/spoil] is a really convoluted way to end a title about two of DC's most convoluted characters.
I'm halfway tempted to create a ''Hawkman's Mace Appreciation Thread' after seeing the title of this one.

At this point, the convolution is a feature not a bug.

Considering Death Metal is still happening, all the crazy about continuity and the news about the Omniverse, Venditti made a great decision by not wasting panel time trying to answer questions and fix things that can very much not matter in a few months.
He probably decided that was a better choice to provide emotional closure to Carter and Shayera than explain everything.

[spoil]I took it more as the final word on them as a couple than anything else; they finally get their happy ending. It's comics, this won't last. It's just the end page for anyone who likes those two to have and hold the same way All-Star Superman is an ending to anyone who wants it to be. Same with Tom King's Batman Annual #2 and so on.[/spoil]
This was a pretty great run and the hiccups it faced it did so pretty well, all things considered. I wish it wasn't hamstrung by keeping Hawkwoman out of the book and the Metal tie ins, but again, they made lemonade out of it.

I guess it would have been a smoother end in my mind if they didn't actually time travel (physically), but got to [B]experience[/B] again their time as the Golden Age Hawks so that in the present, they'd retain all the memories of the classic Hawks (effectively merging the current versions with them) without the problem of the duplicates.
So everything in history would have happened as before, but in the present (and future) the Hawks would get to remember their most favored time in way more detail than they do their other lives.
Funny thing is, it wouldn't need to change much about these last few issues as long as the situations were portrayed as them reliving moments they had forgotten.
It had it ups and downs but overall i think it was one of the better Hawkman series.

I believe Venditti expected to get more time, he probably wanted to spend some time with the Hawks on the past with the JSA. Actually, maybe he wanted to low key do a JSA book.
