Speaking of deserts, I saw the Tom Cruise Mummy. Not bad, not great. A fun viewing. I think they were trying to do too much with the whole Dark Universe.
Just watched Ghost Rider again. It sort of walks that line of being filmed around when Nick Cage when off the deep end.
THE MATRIX (1999). I could have done without the love story inserted in the movie, that stuff made me groan. There's no foundation for it in the plot. Of course, anyone would love Neo, he's a god. But his relationship with Morpheus is given more development than with Trinity. It seemed like they have to fall in love because he's a young, white male and she's a young, white female--and no other reason is needed.
Sierra Burgess Is A Loser. Not too bad.
Crazy Rich Asians. Pretty predictable paint by numbers rom-com. Poor/middle class girl tries to overcome hostility from rich boyfriends family/friends. Yes it's been done before. While this type of stuff is not my fare. I still liked it, it had a lot of the style and glamour of a Bond film. And in many ways reminded me of Black Panther in that like BP you had people with their own agency and masters of their own house. I also really admired the confidence and dignity of the characters.
Apart from curiosity, I was interested in seeing this film because I have a strong soft spot of Chinese culture, having grown up in a city with a large Chinese community. And I have always admired them, work ethic, attitude etc. So I was hoping to see some of that. It was touched on briefly. But not as much as I would have liked.
Ready Player One - Haven read the book, I first was just comparing the movie to the book. But as it moved on, I got more interested in the characters and more involved in the movie.
The movie certainly veered from the book while keeping the same basic premise and plot.More action and less 1980 trivia minutia. I particularly liked the Shining sequence.
I think they did a great job of making the the world of 2045 and the OASIS look as described in the book.
I wonder how people who did who had not read the book felt about the movie.
I Kill Giants I found it entertaining and touching. Now I need to read the graphic novel.
Tag(2015). Not the crime movie from this year but an Asian horror flick. A quiet girl somehow keeps shifting between dimensions where she lives different lives. She escapes each dimension right as other characters die violent and increasing over the top deaths. The cast is almost completely female. I'm sure this is supposed to be a metaphor for something...
X-Men:Apocalypse
Passable X-Men movie, but it really should not have been made. Wasn't worth it
Whiplash. For a movie that was put together just to show what the director was capable of...this movie is quite amazing. Damian Chazzelle has made two really amazing movies...makes me quite excited about First man.
Bleach(live action)
I thought it was good
10 Cloverfield Lane

Overall disappointing. Felt like 90 percent torture porn with about ten minutes of interesting sci fi mixed in. John Goodman is a great bad guy, though.
Batman: Ninja
This movie is stupid, not in a good way, and it's not the entertainingly bad kind of movie. Batman is stupid, the characters are flat, who chooses to make the animator of JoJo's Bizarre Adventures introductions animate a full movie in that choppy style? The villains are the weird kind of doofus, the internal logic of this world is bonkers.
I love anime and I love how outlandish it can be, but this is a poorly directed poorly made load of nonsense stuck together with loosely attached stapler pins to hold the pieces together.
I wonder how people who did who had not read the book felt about the movie.
I really like the visuals, the characters, and the nostalgia trip. The story did not wow me.
Just watched the 2014 TMNT. It was largely mediocre, but the elevator scene had me giggling at least :P
