But is there Harley Quinn oversaturation? By the time Birds of Prey comes out, it will be three and a half years since Robbie's last appearance as the character in Suicide Squad. Then there will be another year at the least before the next Suicide Squad movie comes out.
It's still a much milder rate of appearances than Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine and Batman on the big screen.
It's more worry than anything logical. The Birds of Prey thing is supposed to be a trilogy focusing on Harley from what I've heard, but to be fair we don't know anything about release dates.

The Birds/Sirens/vs film rumor has been debunked. It's not happening.
Um, what? Black Widow is a supporting character at best in most of the movies she's been in. If you said "Wolverine saturation", then you'd have a point.
No, saying we're getting Harley oversaturation is akin to saying we're getting Black Widow oversaturation. Widow has been in several team films and a Cap film and is now getting her own film. Harley has only been in one teamup movie and is about to be in another team up film 4 years later, and here come the cries of "Harley oversaturation. "
What the heck?
Wasn't the prevalent complaint against WB previous to the DCEU that they weren't stepping out of their Superman/Batman comfort zone when it came to DC characters? Now that they are willing to give other characters a chance and Superman is on a break, the complaint is "There isn't enough Superman on the big screen"? You can't please them all.
Exactly. Put Superman and Batman back in the toy box and let the other characters shine. What happens next? Aquaman sails to over $1B at the box office and takes his throne as the king of DC properties. I'm willing to bet he'll keep that crown into the next decade.
And now, justice, as Captain Marvel (Shazam) returns to show us why he was threat to Superman back in the 1940's. He just might become our new Superman.
It is crazy to think how they can't get a Superman movie off the ground. That is one of your cornerstone properties and they have no idea how to proceed with it and will just do a Supergirl movie instead. Feels very bizarre. Like it doesn't feel like it should be that complicated.
It's really not that crazy when you look at WB's track record. They've never been responsible for a successful, universally embraced Superman film. They only distributed the first two. MOS only came out due to legal reasons.
Another studio might do wonders with the property and actually appreciate it. They don't consistently appreciate any property except Batman.
Seems like nobody wants to do a Superman movie judging by all the directors who have passed on taking on the project. Can't blame WB for the lack of interest when other properties are attracting talent...
Aren't they only looking for big name directors for Superman?
So there might be lesser known/unproven up and coming talent that they are passing over...

There might be less complaints if they were giving Batman a break too, and yet they're not. Despite the fact that DCEU Batman was not any more embraced than DCEU Superman.

They did give Matt Reeves his own time to develop the Batman film though instead of rushing it. In June 2020, Wonder Woman will easily pass both Batman and Superman in terms of character screentime in the DCEU so far. She will probably still be in the lead even after the first Batman film comes out.

That's only if we're looking at the DCEU though, not superhero movies in general. These issues that Superman fans have predates the DCEU. And Wonder Woman will still only have two solo movies, a (shitty) team movie and an extended cameo in another. Compared to the media the other two have had over the years (especially Batman), she comes up short.
They gave Superman one solo that they only made due to legal pressure, and ran back to Batman as soon as they could despite the fact that he just had a successful solo trilogy. Affleck's Batman was one of two headliners in a controversial and critically panned movie, and was not as embraced as Bale's. Yet The Batman was happening whether Affleck was attached or not, but Superman gets shelved. Despite the fact that audiences liked how Cavill played Superman in JL (the marketing of which he was almost left entirely out of). They need to give chances to other characters, and it's good that they are, but their bias as far as Superman and Batman are concerned is pretty obvious. Coupled with the fact that they've never actually given us a successful Superman film, at least both financially and critically.
I presume the plan is for Superman to go into space for a while and let Kara take his place.
If the rumors that the Supergirl movie takes place in the 1970s are true then technically Superman, or Kal-El anyway, would be in space. Or still on Krypton, which is sort of in space relative to Earth.
It's better for Gunn to pass if he doesn't want to do it. Last thing we need is a director phoning it in for a paycheck.
Supergirl isn't necessarily the right move. They screwed up Clark, are we all that certain they won't find a way to screw up Kara?
An alternate way to look at it is they didn't screw up Wonder Woman or Aquaman so why couldn't they make a good Supergirl movie? One thing a Supergirl movie has going for her is Zack Snyder
probably will have little to no involvement in a Supergirl movie. All they need is another Patty Jenkins or James Wan to direct. Sort of depends on if the director is passionate about the character
and wants to make Supergirl her own or just wants to collect a paycheck.

The Doom Patrol show being as good as it is makes me wonder if it could work as a movie as well. Of course, anything could work as a movie with the right execution but it makes me curious if a well done Doom Patrol movie could be DC’s real answer to Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Maybe if WB hadn't bungled a cinematic Superman as much as they did to the point where they seem set to replace him with his female counterpart fans wouldn't be as annoyed with WB's treatment of the property in the movies.

Exactly. It's not as if we got good mileage out of this Superman before he might be replaced by Supergirl. Hell, there is plenty of material to mine with them interacting together before we even need to get to the idea of retiring him while she has more mileage to go as a solo act.
Not to mention, all they've done is have him repeatedly fight Lex and Zod over and over. There is plenty of material ready to be adapted that they are not utilizing.

Unless you feature every DC character ever created in every film (and all sharing exactly the same amount of screen time), Confuzzled, there will always be somebody complaining. :)

They've been bungling Superman movies since Superman 3. Granted, I liked Man of Steel.
