Virtual trading cards (upperdeck) ?

So I went to my LCS today and I saw a really nice set of marvel fleer metal (2018 I think ?) from upperdeck. I asked a little about them and the guy said they are only available online, which I'm like, what ? He says you buy "virtual" packs, open them, and you can have them mailed if you want a physical copy.
I found it interesting but I really don't trust those online RNG, like those loot boxes from star wars battlefront you know ? It's like gambling with money...
Anywho, if anyone had any experience with that, what did you think of it, how/where you can get those ? Can you trade them even tho they are virtual ?
