Tbe preview for xmen 2 is up. Predictably the Maddie/Scott/Jean stuff is up too.
The dialogue might've worked if the art was more dynamic, imo. The most animated is Wifi, and it's incredibly jarring to see. Rachel's got this perpetual blank look (I think it's the eyes) while Cyke sounds... strange.
I call soft retcon shenanigans. The one part that does interest me is Cyke's taking his kids on a trip. But it's also strange that Cyke refers to Rachel as a kid since, well, isn't she kinda close to Cyke's age?
Ah, well. Lessee where this goes...

Jean will ruin it by showing up. Oh, wait, that's the preview thread. ;)

Guess CC was being straight rather than snarky when he wrote the 'Jean Bomb' story all those years ago. Or maybe the real world has just devolved into parody instead. Probably the latter.

I fear for Monday even more now.

Cyclops and Rachel have always had a strange father-daughter relationship because of the age difference. It must be approximately eight years apart.
But hey, anyway, we've seen Old Cable call Scott "dad" and Scott call Nathan "my kid" so.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while Scott refers to Cable as "my kid" or "my son", he'd always call Nathan by name. Same with Rachel.
I don't know. It's a minor gripe, I think, but the dialogue is, for lack of a better term, alienating. Like, ah, a hive-mind speak. It could also be the art, I guess.
Bottom line, while I'm interested in the direction, the presentation needs a lot of getting used to. Even Cyke cracking a joke fell flat to me.

As long as there's no Jean/Maddie-related question, it should be fin... Nevermind.

Makes sense he'd stop calling him Nathan since he's now age-appropriate. I've got nothing for Rachel, though.

Isn't it kind of the point, though? Parents/educators cracking intentionally flat jokes to troll their kids/students and all that.
-
Best would be if somehow Ruby shows up and Cyke tells Rachel to stay home.

I thought Cyclops had mastered deadpan humor?

That was in the 90s, and we only talk about that to poke fun at pouches, bad feet, and storylines made up of pure edge.

Fair enough, but I guess I'll blame it on Beast...

I'd rather Ruby and Rachel have their own (mis)adventures, tbh :D With PapaClops coming in to bail them outta space prison.

Rachel: "Dad! What took... Wait, where's mom?"
Ruby: "................."
Rachel: "Oh, you know what I mean. Either, both, same diff."
Ruby: "................."
Rachel: "Seriously, though, where are they?"
Scott: "................."
Scott: "Odds are they're still standing around and whining about me being an awful father."
Rachel: "................."
Ruby: "................."
