I don't think it's that. Basically it's America where the issue is so controversial, other countries concede to the majority of scientists. I'm convinced that it's because we're so divided politically these days that some folks look at the issue as, "Hmm if those liberals feel one way about something then I'll take the opposite stance!"
A lot of people do sincerely believe it's a Fifth Column move to implement Socialism.
It's simply an appeal to consequences. Pretty common human response. Especially for people who grew up in the Cold War.
Plus, they can't touch the science with their hands like they can with communications devices. which use all sorts of principles they'd be just as likely to write off as gibberish without the functioning tech in their hands.
My two cents:
I'm a registered Democrat (although I don't give a damn about party. With politics, its choosing the lesser of two evils.) .
That being said, I'm seriously getting tired of these Democrat ladies whining about being a woman, demanding equal rights, but screaming 'racism' left and right expecting special treatment.
So you have a problem with them calling out Trump's sexist behavior -- including numerous sexual assault allegations and saying to just "grab them by the p*ssy" because "they let you do it" -- and telling them to "go back where they came from" because you see that as "expecting special treatment".
Explain exactly why you think it's a problem for them to call out Trump for his racism and sexist behavior when none of that would be acceptable in any other job position -- least of all as the president of the United States.
Or do you prefer they -- and other minorities -- just shut up and accept it?

This leads to a question I've been meaning to ask for a while: what do you guys think is the most important issue of our time?
I asked people around me. My godfather thinks it's the debt. My father thinks it's the rise of the administrative state. My mother thinks it's Russia. One of my brothers thinks it's global warming.
I'd say it's determining how best to adjust to rapid social and technological change. Where do you guys stand?
I'd say it's Climate Change and Income Inequity. Both of which the Republicans are on the wrong side of history. They deny CC is happening and do everything they can to make things worse. Trump is particularly an enviornmental ogre. And their policies and obsession with Tax Cuts for the Rich only puts more and more of the percentage of wealth into the hands of those at the top.

Some people don't like strong, opinionated women or strong, opinionated people of color.
And now people are seeing both. AT. THE. SAME. TIME.
Heavens to Murgatroyd! Exit, stage left closet sexist/racist people!
And I hope the people that keep offending the conservatives don't stop being themselves.

Where are their actual accomplishments? At least Trump has them. They're practically giving Trump (who I can't stand even more) the next win on a silver platter Many Americans don't care about the PC Police.
Trump complains about the media? They're doing him a favor by putting the spotlight on the wrong crowd. Where's the group that is working on genuinely trying to fix things?
I wish there was a party that was in the middle. Tired of extreme left vs extreme right.
The interesting thing is that you see the same arguments and terminology being used over and over again online because most of them all have the same mindset about how sexism and bigotry are just things "minorities" complain about because they want "special privileges" and not because they are addressing problematic issues that we all know exist in our society -- "screaming racism" is probably right up there with "PC police" and "having diversity shoved down your throat" in terms of talking points.
We're at the point where the President of the United States makes a practically textbook racist statement about members of Congress and the general Republican response is to criticize the women rather than address the racism itself.
If people didn't know what they were about before, they can't claim they don't know now.

Might be one of those old-school pre-Republican Strom Thurmond Democrats -- there's still a few left in the party.

What "special treatment" were they asking for? To not be told by a racist to go back to their country? (Which is America)
This is almost saying well they deserve the racism cause they are "commies" anyway! Like we heard from Lindsey yesterday
Its always fascinating that certain people get more upset from calling out the racism than the racism itself.

Because Trump does this every day. We get it by now. He's a sleeze.
Focus on getting rid of him. How would you do a better job? Lead by example. Cover that

They can -- and are -- doing both.
So, again, why do you have a problem with them speaking up about his sexism and racism -- "screaming racism" as you call it?
Part of their job is keeping people like him from abusing their power and holding him accountable for said behavior which is exactly what they are doing.
Even AOC admitted it was just a distraction (ACA ruling, Epstein connections, Mueller testimony, Iran and Korea failures, etc) but there's no reason why his sexism and racism shouldn't be addressed as well since that's part of the reason why America needs to get him, and the Republicans, out of office.

However, even with that pissing on people’s heads, I think there’s a way to filter them out from those who aren’t shy around addressing and - more importantly- doing something meaningful about inequality, nepotism, and other ills without relying on the whole “oppressor monolith vs. oppressed monolith” angle.

I already said. I'll say it one more time.
Its the same complaining over and over and over again. Its getting old. We get it. They made their point. Now focus on fixing the problem.

You still haven't explained how they aren't doing that by addressing the problem directly by speaking out against it when it happens.
You also haven't made it clear whether you think it's better they just shut up and take it instead.
