I hope this doesn't flop but i feel it will.
I think this movie is dead on arrival sadly. All the signs point to another Fan4stic.
This is evidently Simon Kinberg's white whale. The X-Men film franchise hasn't earned a second attempt at anything Phoenix-related. Failing that, we don't know or care enough about Jean for the story to matter. It's too bad this can't be moved to a streaming service release along with New Mutants. (Saying New Mutants should also be moved - not saying it is being moved, like that shallow rumor said.)
I hope this doesn't flop but i feel it will.
That's the perception and I worry that it'll only make for a self-fulfilling prophecy, no matter how well the movie turns out. I was at NYCC when Sophie Turner, Tye Sherridan, and Simon Kinberg came out for interviews. The area was packed. People seemed genuinely excited about this movie. Everyone involved seemed upbeat. Tye and Sophie really seemed to enjoy each other's company. This perception about the movie is coming almost entirely from people who are still whining about X-Men Apocalypse or that this isn't in the MCU, which are both awful reasons to dismiss it.
If this movie flops, it'll flop for all the wrong reasons. Kinberg has gone on record as saying that X3 is a mistake. He wants to correct it. And yet, people are still giving him crap for it. It's sad and I think it'll only hurt this movie in ways it and the cast don't deserve.
I think the film will be enjoyable for what it will be, but for those of us diehard X-fans or Jean fans we should go in expecting X-3 2.0. As Filthy Mutie above said, since this Jean's appearance in Apocalypse there has not been enough time or interest in Jean's evolution to warrant this film at this stage. Having read the leaked script concepts last summer, and seeing most of those seeming to be true through the trailer, I'll go see it but will not be expecting much. I'm bummed and hope that I'll be surprised.
I've given up hope on it being good. But still looking forward to seeing Scott and Jean on screen. Also hoping Nightcrawler and Storm aren't wallpaper in this.

I would love this film to be great but the signs aren't looking to good. First time director along with extensive re-shoot's and TWO rescheduled release dates point to the movie being in trouble.
Kinberg's comments about X3 is just PR spin and the proof will be in the pudding.
If this film turns out to be good I will gladly eat a large slice of humble pie, as will others.
Heard someone watched it and said it was terrible...
Hope he's wrong
I'm looking forward to this. I don't think it will be great, but i actually want to see x-men interact and not a huge wolverine show. I liked Apocalypse for what it was too. they didn't get the character right, but the x-men alone, and seeing scott and jean portrayed well made me like it enough

It wasn`t even Scott in Apocalypse. He never was a jerk boy. They tried to make him cool by making him a jerk. Such things don`t work.
I don't trust Kinberg or Fox in general. At this point I would rather this movie just be scrapped, but whatever. At least this will finally end this crazy chameleon version of Mystique for good.
What worries me the most about this movie is that it could make Disney want to try other things in order to not copy Fox. That could mean shelving Jean and/or Scott. Two characters that really deserved better when it comes to movies

That's one of the things that is really poor. They've push Mystique into the forefront of the movies solely because of Jennifer Lawrence. Mystique leading the team is just all wrong.

I think they Dark Phoenix as a story won't be recycled anytime soon, however I can't believe that they would not have Cyclops & Jean in the new movies, they are at the core of the franchise. I',m expecting the 05 in the first Disney movie.

People said the same thing about Deadpool 2 last year just a few months before it came out. It went onto gain both acclaim and box office success. Plus, there have been false leaks from test screeners before. It has also been documented that when footage was shown at NYCC and another con in South America, the audience responded favorably.
In short, if you go in with negative expectations, you're going to look for excuses to justify them because people don't like changing their minds. I guarantee you that the people whining about the movie now are going to find a reason to justify it, no matter how good the movie ends up being.
This movie is but an anomaly of our timeline. Enjoy it.
I'm honestly trying not to have a negative outlook for the film, just a little annoyed they rushed into the phoenix story. From the apocalypse movie, I feel there should have been another movie before this one, then do the phoenix story. There was no character development for the younger cast ( Scott, Jean, Kurt, Ororo, etc.) that IMO needed to happen between Apocalypse and DP. But I know there was no time to throw in that middle story so I'll just try to be positive and hope some of that development happens in this movie.

huh? a jerk how? i thought he acted just fine. i couldn't even name a part in the movie where acted like a jerk. feel free to hate on it, but i thought it was fine enough and was just happy to see cyclops get a decent role

I didn't like the way they portrayed Scott either. And, mostly, I thought he was wallpaper again.
I worry this movie simply has not done enough, and can't do enough inside a single movie, to establish the relationships at the heart of the story. Without that, like in X3, this movie will fail to deliver.
Folks are still excited about this, even after Fox and Kinberg's aiding and abetting of Singer?

Right? I mean, some of us have been aware of this for a loooooooooooong time(like since the beginning, there was already a solid case for Singer being a predator since Apt Pupil, before he even started X1), but many people didn't even want to consider such ideas. That is only one of the many reasons I don't trust Kinberg or Fox in general.

Don't get me wrong. It was fine that Cyke got a descent role.
Just for me he was acting nothing like a Cyke.

Singer had nothing to do with this movie, so why should that matter?
What about all the studios that aided and abetted Kevin Spacey over the years? Should we not see any movies by THOSE studios, as well?
Hollywood is a den of filth and exploitation in general, but Singer cast almost everyone in DP and Kinberg was right by his side almost the whole time. It is definitely relevant.

All you have to do is look at his films and there is definitely a certain type...twink, well fit, pretty, but can't really act.
I was excited after seeing the poster....all that excitement left after seeing the trailer and how much it was just like X3....ugh
Not sure if this has any legitimacy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBn6o3vuFW4
Let's try to talk about something good
1- who is your favorite actor/actress?
2- who is your favorite character from this movie?
3- what do you want from this movie?
1-I really liked Kodi Smit-McPhee as a young Nightcrawler. He looks weird but in a cute way
2- A tie between jean and scott
3- I want to see scott and jean as a functional couple even for a bit. i miss that
Hollywood is a den of filth and exploitation in general, .
ugh I definitely can relate I was on a swim team in Alabama

He’s still a producer, according to Chastain. Or he was before his meltdown on Bohemian Rhapsody.

J Law finally looks like Mystique, so that’s something.

The actor looks like a douchebag

Are you referring to the imaginary test screenings that have been happening lately.
Not sure if this has any legitimacy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBn6o3vuFW4
I’ve actually talked with that guy they are citing on twitter before. He also said that he heard positive reactions from the Venom test screenings after the reshoots. Which we all know wasn’t the overall reaction since Sony didn’t left the embargo until the day of the release. Showing the studio had no faith in Venom. So a blogger hearing from a handful of people is not really a good way to determine how the overall audience reaction was. Especially, when hundreds of people go to these screenings if I am correct.
I don’t think this guy is a reliable source. Here is what he said earlier this month and here is what someone who worked on the film said a few days ago.

She’s legit too. Here is her IMDB page.

So there was no screening for nearly a year until last week. So there has a bit artificial bad buzz made since Dark Phoenix ended up in third on IMDB’s and China’s most anticipated film of 2019. I doubt she has been lying for a year about working at Fox.

So this isn’t like that anonymous poster on Superhero Hype that claimed to have worked at Fox and said the movie was cancelled. This is 100% legit. You can read the whole conversation here:

Seems that any alleged public test screenings happening between February of last year and January 22th of this year is completely fabricated. Unless these people were at private screenings for cast and crew but those are not really test screenings.
EDIT: One of the sources of the alleged screening also got plot details wrong.

Indeed. People on ComicBookMovie.com were freaking out when IMDB showed the data. Here’s another one:
I went and saw Dark Phoenix a few months ago. While I didn’t like Apocalypse, I still had high hopes because I still loved First Class and Days of Future Past. Unfortunately, the film was a huge disappointment. Terrible script, bland visuals and the weird choice to recreate scenes from The Last Stand – Fox’s other attempt (failure) to adapt The Dark Phoenix storyline. There is ONE kind of an interesting twist midway but it didn’t really do much for me.
Jessica Chastain – usually an actress I adore – is just Awful in this. Maybe one of the worst villains in a comic book movie I’ve seen in awhile. The Alien villains are bland in general, too. So in short: Overdramatic, badly written, with great actors giving terrible performances. Just an embarrassment to all involved. I’m sad one of my favorite franchises is ending on such a low-note. Can’t wait to see what Feige and co. have in mind for the characters for the MCU though. Thank God the Fox era is about to be over.
Actually, I would. Just because I don't like executives and the director doesn't mean I'm going to punish the cast and crew, especially the latter since I am related to people who did special effects (ASM1 and ASM2).
If the movie doesn't interest me or has terrible promotion, then that's a different story.
