TBH, I think the Reeve films have been damaging to the comic character in the long run. It’s like if Batman never escaped the shadow of Adam West. George Reeves is a much better representation of “my” Superman.
The fellow who played Luthor in the “Atom Man Vs. Superman” serial, Lyle Talbot, is way underrated. People don’t realize how much influence he had on comic Luthor. Appearance-wise, he’s perfect.

Both Reeves and Talbot would be my picks for the closest representations to their (then) comic-book contemporaries within the Superman universe, IMO.
