Yeah, I think this is an excellent articulation of the problem. Sure, Spoiler is unique, but she's too obscure. Even as a third (or sixth, or however many people you want to count) Batgirl, she was a solo hero. As Squire said, she's not a sidekick as Batgirl.
In fact, even if Stephanie was considered a sidekick as Batgirl, she would still be in a better position than Spoiler (who was a sidekick of a sidekick).

Yeah, very true. But I think it's fair to say that as the sidekick of Robin, she's at least a sidekick of someone with a solo.
And I don't think that Steph really is considered a sidekick as Batgirl. She teams up with people, she's not really support for them, except slightly in Batman Inc (but the whole point of her Batman Inc story is that Batman trusts her as a solo hero, and she crashes in to save the day in the final panel).
I have Batgirl #22 on my wall at work here, and I still treasure it as a sort of statement of Steph's history and relationship to Batman. Not necessarily more than her Bruce Wayne: The Road Home issue, but it's perhaps more subtle.

Does anyone else feel a bit gross about Steph choosing to wear a symbol of a person who for years treated her like ****?
-
-
Which symbol?
Bat-symbol.
-
Bat-symbol.
I think that Batman did not treat her well, I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say he treated her that poorly. And even though he did treat her poorly, I think Steph rightly sees the symbol as the mission, rather than the man.
-
Steph wore Babs' symbol. And, by extension, Cass' symbol as well.
Plus, a good part of her Batgirl run, Dick was Batman. And the two got along a LOT better than Steph and Bruce. Granted, most people got along better with Dick than Bruce, but still.
As batgirl she is just one of many, but she is the one and only spoiler.
That she is, because Stephanie has her own unique voice.

Nice!
Also, Steph got to be in a cool action scene in episode 8 of Young Justice: Outsiders today, with some pretty solid Batfamily teamwork and detection. Not really much character work, but way more than we got before! (It is the scene of the young Batfamily team crashing through the roof that was in trailers).

I'm glad she got a good showing in action, even if it was a little distracting that she sounds like Wonder Girl with a vocal effect :p.
Although I guess Mae Whitman's also voiced Batgirl, so she's vocal effect Batgirl ;)?
