First Marvel Issue
What's everyone's first Marvel comic? That one issue that made you step up and start collecting/reading?
Mine was Generation X #11(from the 90's series). I just loved this book until a storyline in the late thirties or early forties that just made me put it down. I can't even remember much of the details other than being turned off by a combination of week story and art for a couple months running. But this one, this one drew me in. I still love Chamber.

Marvel Zombies 4 #3.
I had only read a few X-men issues at the library before, but that was my first comic. Saw the preview for it and had to have it despite knowing very little about the characters.

Uncanny X-Men #174

For a Marvel comic in general it was Star Wars issue 17. For a comic set in the actual Marvel U it was Uncanny X-Men issue 166.

I think my first comic was Avengers Dissassembled tpb, turkish translation.

Had no idea what was going on, took a few issues and editor notes to help clear things up.

It was an anthology:
Uncanny X-Men #145
Uncanny X-Men #146
Marvel Teap Up #90
Marvel Two-In-One #60

I was a bit disapponted, because I thought it was going to be a Fantastic Four story. (I knew them from that terrible Hanna Barbera cartoon)
Also Spider-Man was getting his ass kicked by Killer Shrike.

I got a bunch of Power Pack, Dazzler, Beauty and the Beast, Dakota North and Cloak & Dagger comics at about the same time, so I'm not 100% sure which was my first Marvel. Most of them were from polybagged 3-packs from drugstores, so they were back issues.
I'm thinking this one...

And then I let my friend borrow it and he tore the cover. Never again.

Although I read many comics before then, I distinctly remember at the end of high school (12 years ago) walking into a comic shop and coming away with, among others, Punisher War Journal issues 5 and 6. I sat down in the library with a friend who was studying, and while reading them I thought, "y'know, I could do this every week."

Yeah, that was actually the first issue of X-Men I had. Thrown to the wolves.

Two issues. There was a used book store that had a spinner rack. Bundled together in a bag were
Mavel Team-Up #12

and
Marvel Team-Up #16
http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Marvel_Team-Up_Vol_1_16
I was around 6 at that point and Spidey, Jack Russell (Werewolf by Night) and Mar-Vell were my favs for years after that (and I'd love to see the Basilisk come back again too!).

A second, possibly third hand copy of a British re-print of 70's Spidey stories. Bought it from the Barras around '88 but the comic was older than that ('76-ish?).
It was printed in traditional magazine size and all in black and white. I figure the colours must have messed up in the re-sizing. I later spent months re-colouring the whole thing with pencils.
The first story was a Spidey/ Morbius story featuring Glory Grant. The middle was a Thor story (?) by Simonson and the last - the big heavy hitter - was Amazing Spidey #122.
Blew my tiny little mind.

The only problem was we got it in a trade with a friend in the neighborhood and it was hard to find issue #40 on the newstands. Eventually we got one.

Hmm it was either an issue of Micronaughts, Rom or the Pirate Kitty Xmen story.

My first non universe marvel was transformers 1. Kid next door gave it to me.
[IMG][/IMG]
First in universe is fantastic four 305.
[IMG][/IMG]
And this trade right after!
[IMG][/IMG]
It was fantastic four that got me to read the main marvel books. Before then it was only gijoe, star wars and transformers. I would not ever try the main marvel books even after my friend tried to get me to read his new mutants comics. I just didn't care for them and would have dropped comics after some time i'm sure. Then I saw a cool rock guy on the cover of 305 and the rest was history!

Not the first I read but the first I bought and collected
Secret wars 1
-
I can't be sure, but I think it was X-Men Adventures #1, the comic book that was based on the animated series.

I can't remember the cover for the life of me. It was a daredevil story where Matt was on boat going to Japan and was attacked by ninjas. Ever since that issue i have been a big daredevil fan and collector.

The one that started me on collecting?
HULK #323.

Used to stay at my grandparents for a couple weeks every summer to help out my grandfather tend to the house, yard or just hang out and go fishing.
I remember that year because of the grasshopper infestation and a bad drought in southern Idaho, so instead of fishing, I went along with Grandma while she chatted up with old friends and grocery shopped from town-to-town.
Saw this issue, flipped thru it and loved it. Grandma forked over 75 cents.
Next store, saw #321. Got that one too.
One last store, there was #322. Had to skip on that one for dinner, but we'd come back the next day to get it (after mowing the lawn or pulling weeds.)
Sure enough, went back but someone bought it. I didn't read #322 for another three years...

My first Marvel issue was an early Spiderman one though I can't remember the exact issue. It had belonged to my uncle and I think the cover might have been missing. The first Marvel book that started me off collecting them was Transformers #5 with that awesome Shockwave cover and I ended up going through the back issue bins for the previous four issues of that one the very next week. My first mainline Marvel book was New Mutants #1 after hearing a friend of mine praising the issue. (Just for clarification this was back in the 80s.)

Thor and Cable were my first two favorite characters at Marvel. The X-Men comic helped me get into them at that time.

So, there was a time when I had never even tried to read a comic book. I had known about Marvel/DC for years, thanks to my love of the 90's cartoons and films (X-Men & Spider-Man where my favorite cartoons, and Batman Returns is still one of my all-time favorite films) but the allure of comics never hit. I must admit Marvel had always been my favorite of the two, and I was getting a little more into the world thanks to playing on a game called Marvel Heroes. Then, around three years ago? I was looking for a vinyl records shop in my local town, I found a charming little comic book shop (Shout out to Atomic Comics & Games in Yeovil!) where I spotted this strange little book called 'The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1' I recognized the character from Marvel Heroes and thought eh, why not?

I had no idea it would change my life. Literally, I was in a dark place at that time and escaping into the world of comics helped me a lot. I started going back in, picking up others books (My favorites being the new Jane-Thor books and Angela: Asgard's Assassin!) and when I discovered Marvel Unlimited, that was it... I was hooked into this world, and I never want to leave! I now have over 500+ physical books, and have read many more on the MU app. Oh, and while I still adore Squirrel Girl and her book, She-Hulk has replaced her as my muse/favorite character/icon!
-
The first one I read was some X-Men comic that belonged to my cousin when I was younger, but I can't remember the specific issue.
The first one I bought out of my own pocket for keeps was Ms. Marvel #1 and the beginning of Kamala Khan's run in 2014, and I've never looked back. Similar to what's posted above with Squrriel Girl, buying Ms. Marvel #1 changed my life.

It was supposed to be a picture of Gambit #1 (1999) lmao
Dunno what happened there.

I borrowed a bunch of Marvel comics from a friend at school. There were a couple of the Pocket book collections of the early Spider-Man, Hulk, and Captain America.
But the first single issue I read that left an impression on me was Fantastic Four #250 by John Byrne. It was a fun story, but what really stood out to me was the guest stars Spider-Man and Captain America helped the FF fight a strangely antagonistic X-Men. The idea of a world full of heroes, each having their own adventures, meeting up and working together blew my mind. When I started buying my own comics, Marvel Team Up was my favorite title because it highlighted the aspect of the Marvel Universe that most appealed to me.

Reading this thread really showed me how young I am in comparison.

Went into a comic shop in 2013 after finding it near my college and having come into a little cash. I picked this up because I thought they'd made Peter Parker black at some point. Had to see if they would really have done that. No regrets.
