How exactly is this any different from her swearing to never kill again after she killed someone for the first time?

So if Bruce adopts Cassandra does she stop being Orphan?

Would help if she ditched the sword.

Cass looking good :).

Outside YJ they seem to be moving away from that name. I guess there's the webtoon, but they seem averse to the Batgirl name.

Because that was a more severe action taken at a much younger age.
This Cass is older, and clearly her maiming Babs didn't get her to renounce violence...
I don't think she should be literally unable to speak. It was a point for her character development and relationship with others that she learned how to speak.
Also the facial scars probably give her more of an excuse to wear the mask 100% of the time.
Agreed. It really curtails a core aspect of the character. I really hope we get more Cass, but part of me thinks we won't.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but Cassandra was suddenly able to speak due to a metahuman.
This ruined her defensive ability, but she got it back thanks to Shiva (although we've never see what Shiva did to help Cassandra).

Probably true for a lot of the flavor of the month characters in these arcs, or the show in general, unfortunately.

My money's on Cass :).

Yeah, that was in her Batgirl series; the metahuman had telepathic abilities, perceived how her brain functioned differently and, thinking that she had some kind of brain damage, "fixed" it. Have seen commentary online as to whether it was accidentally ableist and certainly mind manipulation without consent is very gray. On the other hand, in regards to the former, she was still depicted as working through learning disorders and the like even after being "fixed," so there was that.

I want to be wrong but-- Impulse and Blue Beetle spring to mind.

Or most of the season 3 characters that weren't Beast Boy. Or Tim....poor Tim.

She's still very young in this version. Furthermore, just because she didn't renounce violence doesn't mean she wants to maim people.

Which makes it all the more weird that she's still wielding a sword. Although at this point I think she's about the age she was pretty firmly Batgirl Post-Crisis.
