Looks cool and fun. (and not as dark as "Titans") Surprised we haven't seen the Negative Being yet. (it wasn't in "Titans" either) It shouldn't be that difficult an effect to pull off unless they got really ambitious about it.
Negative Man looks really great though - love the coat and that he doesn't look so bulky like in "Titans." (he reminded me of that episode of "Friends" - could he *be* wearing any more layers? ;))
-
I like Cyborg's vibe. It's a more upbeat characterization.

Well, when you're on the Doom Patrol you kind of have to try and be as upbeat as you can, despite the situation :p.

I’ll give this a shot, but I have a hard time getting into the doom patrol, and it’s overblown weirdness. Robot man really looks clunky, so i’m Wondering of this is what dc is going for.

I'm sure the clunkiness is meant to give him a more Frankenstein's monster vibe, emphasizing his loss of humanity. It will be interesting to see how he feels about his tech compared to Cyborg's.

Cyborg? Was he ever on the team?
Cyborg? Was he ever on the team?
Never ever. I kind of wonder why he is now. They already have Robotman.

Why? Because the cast needed a minority character. Simple as that, and to hell with anything even remotely resembling continuity from the original comics.
-
Many really great reviews of the pilot if you search "doom patrol review" on twitter. I LOVE Doom Patrol but was iffy on the series until I saw so many great reviews. Now I can't wait.

Every cast of everything should have more parity/representation. If TV/film/animation were direct adaptations of the comics virtually every character would be a straight white male. Welcome to 2019. That's not okay anymore. GOOD. Should have happened long ago, in comics and in comic book adaptations.

The cast has two poc.
Crazy jane is the other one and she is latino.

I think it's strange to go with Cyborg when he's on the Justice League in the DCEU and they have a Titans show where he'd make more sense and not go with Tempest (Joshua Clay not Garth) for Doom Patrol or someone.
None the less they were the best part of Titans and looking forward to the show.

No argument there. My argument was with the poster that was upset there was a POC in the show. #comicsgatelives
It's as strange to have Cyborg on the Justice League as on the Doom Patrol when he was a [New] Teen Titan right up to New 52, but it would be appalling if all our comic book adaptations were as white as the comics have historically been themselves. I'd be all for Tempest. I'd also be cool with making existing white characters non-white. Representation has to happen somehow.

TWO?! How dare they! :)

They could have used Tempest or Celsius or someone else for that. I think Cyborg eventually ends up in Titans somehow.
Crazy Jane is one of my faves so I'm glad she's included, but doesn't seem as crazy as in the comic books so far...
-
The reason Cyborg is on this team is for name recognition and to tie into the Titans later.
The first part I get ... but isn't Beast Boy the normal tie to Doom Patrol for the Teen Titans?

That's fine but what about Tempest? Honestly I don't know much about the character I only ever read Morrison's run and I remember him being a part of the team before Morrison jumped on.

I think Cyborg belongs on Titans over Justice League but it doesn't bother me because my first exposure to Cyborg was Ernie Hudson voicing him on Galactic Guardians the Super Powers Team. Just wish Firestorm was with him. :D

This series looked great from the start. I feel like this is gonna be the best DC related property since YJ first came out.

I don't have a problem with race swapping in DP since the characters are not so iconic. Though having Cliff Steele or Larry Trainor being black would be kind of pointless (at least for visual diversity purposes). But if they brought in a black Mento or even if the Chief was black, I'd be cool with that.

Oh I agree race swapping Negative Man or Robot Man would defeat the purpose of visual representation. Chief I would had been cool with until they cast Timothy Dalton just love him as an actor. I just found using Cyborg strange especially with a Titans show. Since it's based off Morrison's run another popular run of his was Animal Man a race swapped version of him on the team could had been interesting or like I mentioned early Joshua Clay's Tempest.

Or we can stop assuming that anytime a POC shows up, it's to fulfill some quota or SJW agenda - as though that's the only reason one would be included.

Thank you. Also, what's wrong with SJW? We need more of them, not less, in comics and everywhere.

The only thing wrong with it is that it's a simplistic term that its detractors use as away to dismiss the underlying social relevance of the sentiment behind it. (buzzwords are the hallmark of simple minds and the enemy of intelligent discourse)

While way over used now and used to describe any person with a liberal viewpoint "SJW" was used once to describe the far end of a political ideology in it'd case the left in the very same way something like "Bible Thumper" was to describe the religious right.

I think even that's an oversimplification. I don't think politics has too much to do with it to a certain degree except in the sense that everything is politics. Because I consider myself pretty far left, but I don't think I've ever been called an SJW. I think SJW started out as an insult hurled at people on the left who preached moral sociopolitics from a condescending position, mainly dealing with traditionally marginalized groups, without having the knowledge to back up their claims. Probably containing a little bit of hypocrisy. While it's true that many people who would fit this are on the left, a great many of them don't really care about any of the other issues that the Far Left focuses on.
Those are the ones who the term was created about and the term was probably used properly for about an hour and thirty minutes before it became the most popular insult on the internet used by white boys who are upset that they can't use the words faggot, retard and pussy anymore without getting called out. Now, I'm not saying everyone who uses the term is a racist, sexist, homophobe. But most of the racist, sexist, homophobes who I have met on the internet use the term like its currency and it does certainly make me take the opinion of the person I'm talking to with a grain of salt.

Beast Boy left the DP in the Teen Titans episode. But he could definitely drop in for an appearance in this series.
That could also be why Cyborg is there.

One episode in and I think we're off to a great start! We get origins for Rita, Cliff and Larry which were all great!(focus on Cliff though, but that's not surprising) I imagine some people won't like some of the changes to the origins, but I can see why it's needed to flesh these guys out. I don't really recall any of them having any kind of real life before the team, and it just makes sense for the show that they had issues before becoming freaks. I like it.
-
First episode is pretty great. One of the best first episodes for any superhero show in fact.
-
I wish we could get all the episodes at once instead of having to wait. The pilot really just sets things up and just when everything is about to happen, that's when it ends.
While I liked that each character belongs to a different time period (but what about the Chief?), this does mean they've been sitting around Doom Manor for a very long time. And some of those timeline things seem clunky. It's hard to accept that these strange heroes have been couch potatoes for decades, with nothing ever happening until now.
-
WOW! That exceeded my wildest expectations. Loved it more than any live-action DC TV since Batman '66. Can't wait for the rest of the season!
-
I thought this was a great start and I don't mind the one episode a week deal myself. Less of chance for someone to spoil the entire season for me that way, which happens a lot to me with shows that drop all their episodes at once. (I have friends that have unintentionally done so in the past and I really hate that so...)
-
Great episode definitely one of the best live action DC shows has right now with Gotham.

I’m guessing because of their various afflictions, they wouldn’t age the same way as ‘normal’ people. But I am a little curious as to why they introduced each character from specific, different time periods. As far as the characters themselves, I think Rita is the most realized for me. In the comics, she didn’t really interest me much; size changing heroes, or elastic heroes don’t really interest me. But here, she seems more “fleshed out.” Larry’s story is also kind of interesting- I can’t really understand the negative being’s powers, or how Larry controls it, or doesn’t. I also can’t really tell if Matt bomer is really doing the voice or not. Cliff Steele is the hardest for me to get behind- robot man still looks clunky to me. Also, can robots blink? I’m guessing the chief is at least partially responsible for what happened to mr. nobody, but i’m Wondering if they’re going to have him directly responsible for the accidents that befell the doom patrol. How would he be responsible for accidents?
I could do without the near constant f-bombs. I’m starting to like Alan tudyk, in spite of myself.

The ageing for Cliff, Larry, Rita and Jane makes sense--their afflictions explain why their age isn't visible. But the Chief was around in all those periods and doesn't seem to have aged since the 1980s--so he must have an affliction as well, or is time not passing normally in Doom Manor?
I like the different time periods because it lets each character have their own ambience in the flashbacks. The 1950s makes sense for a classic film actress. The 1960s makes sense for a hotshot jet pilot. The 1970s rings true for the far-out Crazy Jane. Leaving the 1980s for Cliff.
Lots of opportunity for set design and costuming.
What doesn't make sense is why Jane and Cliff met so late, when they both seem to have been in the house at the same time--this leads me to think that there's weird stuff going on inside the house which would explain how their ships never passed in the night.

I think it's a narrative conceit. The really important things have to happen in the now. They also conveniently left out Beast Boy as being a guest, but the line of how other people have some and gone was the catch-all for the fact that people have been around, but Cliff didn't necessarily meet them all. It's a big house and I can imagine the Chief limiting various guests to various parts of the house.

Loved it, fantastic start.
